My beloved Powerbook G4 is still plugging away, but I'd really like to be able to run the occasional Windoze app (online banking and shopping) as well. So, I'm in the market for a new Macprobably a MacBook Pro, but I may go with an iMac and keep the PB in service as my on-the-go machine.

Anyway, what are the best places to shop for a Mac in Korea? I've been to the A# shops in Myeong-dong and COEX, but are there other places? How about Yongsan? Also, any idea about whether it's possible to get an educational discount? (I teach at a university.)

Hey, I got an educational discount on mine- about $100 off for teachers. You need to show some proof of employment. Secondly, my friend got one in Myeongdong and you can buy the display models if you're looking for a good deal.

Hi,

I upgraded to a macbook in February this year. It was really easy - I called Apple Korea (because no Apple store will give the Education discount anymore) and spoke to a helpful woman in English. It took less than 10 minutes to order including the time for them to create me an Apple Korea account.

To receive the Education Discount, all I had to do was say I am a teacher and she gave it to me. She didn't want any proof - I don't think I gave her my ARC number either.

The handy thing about ordering this way and not through the website, is that I could make the payment by bank transfer. I don't have a Korean credit card so that was really useful for me.

The phone number I called was 080-3403-622.

Sorry if this is a bit too late to be useful.
