My public school is asking for a "Proof Or Residence" form. I have no idea what this would be. I'm a New Zealand, does anyone know what agency of the NZ govt I'd apply to for that document? |

Nope. A couple of my kiwi pals have been asked for this and I'm going to give you the same advice I gave them (I'm a kiwi too).
They (the administrative powers that be) want to make sure you are a New Zealander. There is NO SUCH THING as a 'proof of residency' document. If you were asked to provide proof of residence in your home country you'd show them a bank statement, doctor's appointment letter, or any other official looking document that had your address on it. These won't cut the mustard here. So try this:
1. Show them your passport (even though they already have a copy).
You: "Son saeng nim here is my passport. This proves I am a New Zealander.
Korean:"No we wan't a proof of residence certificate".
2.
You: "There is no such thing. Please tell me what you want."
Korean: "I want a proof of residence certificate/document/blah blah."
3.
You: "Okay, you tell me what this document is and how I can get it."
Korean: "Uhhh...I don't know. Maybe you need to try your embassy/dept of internal affairs/blah blah blah."
4.
You: "I already tried those places. They say they don't know what you're talking about. There is no document such as you describe. Can you tell me the exact name of this document and where I can get it."
Korean: "Uh...I don't know."
5.
You: "As you can see I'm very busy right now. I want to help you but I don't know what you need. Please come back when you can tell me exactly what you need and where I can find it."
Just keep stonewalling until they either give up or accept your passport as proof that you're a New Zealander. This approach has worked for me and my two friends. If they can't tell you what they want then you can't provide it. Persevere with the "You tell me what you want and where to find it" approach and the problem will magically go away - guaranteed |
