I am considering a position in Geoje, but the position is in Gohyeon and not Okpo? How uncool is this? Will I still be able to find nightlife and fun stuff? |
Gohyeon is expanding tremendously these last couple of years with some first-class shopping and entertainment (especially jazz at the 4-star hotel to woo international shipbuilding billion-dollar contracts).
I really never liked it. Was an Okpo-er through and through. Loved being close to everything to walk. Gohyeon traffic is getting hectic!
But the ferry from Gohyeon (or Okpo) gets you downtown Busan (right next to Nampodong) in 45-50 minutes, less time than to take the subway across Seoul.
Gohyeon is on an unattractive section of the north coast (can see the sea at least), though MINUTES from nice areas, again, less time than to get out to Haeundae from downtown Busan.
Go to Gohyun if you are a moterbiker or thinking of getting your own wheels. You can get to nice places quickly. And the air quality is a huge advantage. For much of the year systems from the south pacific hit Geoje as they turn toward Japan, bringing some very different weather than the peninsula many times.
And there are plenty of nice and cheap and comfty express buses from Gohyun straight to Seoul (basically every hour), in under 4.5 hours, zip zip, on major highways. I must have taken the Friday midnight to Seoul ten or twelve times in my years on Geoje. Every two or three months for shopping or events or to visit.
Good luck whatever. |
