|
|
Hey,
I have a week of vacation around the end of June and would really like to go to Cambodia, but I'll be going alone. Is it safe to do this as a woman? I'd pretty much be sticking with the major tourist areas (Angkor, killing fields, etc). Also, how heavy will the rain be then? Is it worth going at that time?
If not to any of the above, can anyone offer me any suggestions on other places that would be good around that time? I've already been to Thailand a few times, Beijing, Japan and Vietnam. I'd like to go somewhere new!
Thanks! |

Just be careful with your bag. I met three women there a couple of years ago that had burn marks on their necks as a result of the person on the back of a scooter yanking on their bags.
I would keep most stuff in pockets, and keep little of value in a bag.
You will easily meet people in backpacking hostels to travel with.

It was 2000 when I was in Cambodia (8 years ago), and there were A LOT OF FOREIGNERS EVERYWHERE.
Meaning, that in 2008, they would have a significantly larger infiltration of foreigners, meaning that you'll probably see other foreigners everywhere all the time (particularly if you are going to be in Phnom Pehn and Siem Riep and Angkor Wat).
In other words, you'll see people to join with all over the place, so shouldn't be a problem at all.
Phnom Pehn gets a bit risky if you are out partying at all hours of the night and trying to get back to your hotel in the middle of the night solo.
The daytime it is absolutely fine and quite nice actually. There are so many hostels in Phnom Pehn, that even if you did want to drink a few beers, you can easily do it in the hostel with fellow travelers without problem. |

That's great, thanks!
As for the weather, I know that the rainy season is from May to October so does that mean it will still be worth it to travel if I'm mostly interested in seeing Angkor and all the temples? I don't want to try to see everything in a monsoon! |

It doesn't rain all the time, and it usually doesn't rain for very long. Bring an umbrella. You'll be fine. |
