I was just wondering how easy/difficult it would be for me to get an E-2 visa from within Korea (i.e. without having to head back to the U.S. for an interview, etc.). I just came back into Korea on a tourist visa after being here for a year on a student visa. I've also held an E-2 in the past (about 3 years ago) if that helps at all. With this background in mind, does it seem like I might be able to take care of the application process from here? Or would it require a trip home? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

previous E2, no immigration violations = no home country interview.
Process is the same as before (application and visa run) with the exception of now also requiring the CRC.
You will have to have a medical before your ARC can be issued.

Looks like a visa run to Japan or your nearby embassy of choice. |

Thanks for the help. Things seem a bit easier now - but still have to worry about getting the CBC... In any case, thank you both again for your help. |

Do all embassies require the vulnerable sector search if you are a Canadian? |

From my lengthy discussions with many officials, what I have gathered is that if you are IN Korea on a current working visa, you do not require a VSS. Get a regular check and the Canadian Embassy will notarize it.
If you are in Canada, it would appear that only the Korean Embassy in Toronto requires the VSS. I have read on the Vancouver website that they no longer require the VSS, however, I am not sure about the Korean Embassy in Montreal.
I have yet to hear of a Canadian go the route of getting the Canadian Embassy notarize and have immigration accept it. But, from what the kind lady at the Canadian Embassy in Seoul told me, was they have processed it this way, and it has worked.
If possible avoid the Korean Embassy in Toronto. I firmly believe that it was the twit there that implemented this VSS rule. I have had numerous arguments with her, and her head is so far up her arse, she doesn't know what the regulations are. She told me that I need to return to Canada every year to renew my visa, even if I am extending at the same school. I explained that I had extended 6 times here in Korea, and she didn't believe me.
Anyhoo, that is what I know. I will be extending again in the next month, with a regular police check from the Toronto PD. I will let you know how it goes. |
