|
|
The 2008 contract stated:
"Employee whose contract is renewed for a second term or subsequent terms at the same school may be eligible for a salary raise up to the maximum GEPIK limit of 2,500,000 won by 100,000 won per year respectively..."
The 2009 contract states:
"The category 1 employee whose contract is renewed for a second term or subsequent terms at the same school may be eligible for a salary raise up to the maximum GEPIK limit of 2,500,000 won by 100,000 won per year respectively..."
So now, unless one is a category 1 employee (who make 2.3 million to start), there will be no 100,000 raises, it appears.
I forget how they are divided exactly, but category 3 is people with just a non-English Bachelors degree(s).
Any input? |

Can you post the contract? I heard I can't get it until January. |

If you have one or two years of experience, there's no reason why you shouldn't move up to Level 1.
Last year I started as a Level 2, making 2.1/month. I had two years of teaching experience.
I finished a 100 hour online TESOL and moved up to a level 1 making 2.3/month.
When I renewed my contract last December, I moved up to 2.4/month.
When I renew my contract for next year, I'll move up to 2.5/month.
Perhaps some teachers who were at Level 3, making 2.0, were trying to get raises up to the 2.5 limit. |

The contract contains guidelines that most schools obligingly follow. If a school really likes you, you might be able to get some perks. Perhaps not much in the way of money, but ask for a little more vacation time, etc. With the exchange rate, vacation time is more valuable than Won. |

Yeah... except you can't afford to travel anywhere outside of K-land because of the exchange rate! |

Has anyone contacted GEPIK directly to get clarification on this change? I can't imagine too many people will accept such a blatant snub at their educational background (or choice). Was there any talk about such changes being made to the GEPIK to your (or anyone else's knowledge)?
Possibly off-topic (and possibly ridiculous question(s) to boot):
How would someone become CAT1 if say they do not hold a BA/MA etc., degree in English? (but say they hold a BA/MA etc., in Political Science, History, etc.,) If GEPIK is going to keep such a ridiculous stipulation how would an individual obtain a raise equal to that of a CAT1 holder without being forced to resign and look elsewhere? |

Well, copies of the 2009 contract were included in the back of the book given @ the GEPIK conference yesterday.
I still don't have a digital copy, however. |
