Hey...can anyone in Daegu post some better directions to the area outside of Camp Walker where you can supposedly buy Extra Large clothing and other foreign goods?
All I could find on here and Galbi Jim's was that you go to the service road at Gate 6, but we circled a 3-4 block radius around Gate 6 and didn't find one single shop.
Anyhow, it would be great if someone could give some more concise directions.
Thanks. |

Sorry, I too went on this wild goose chase empty handed when searching this area on foot intensively for 2 days during my vacation last Summer. I talked to many foreigners in the area with no answers other than the 3 small shops hidden downtown. I only found computer services, cell phones, and American baseball team caps around Camp Walker. The Galbi Jim seems to be out of date or incorrect. Needless to say, it was a very disappointing use of my time and effort on vacation.
The only thing I found in Daegu was hidden in a downtown market place that had aspirin and other personal hygiene items from AAFES though a severely limited selection geared towards adjumma customers. I had to search high and low to locate the 3 or so stores inside a market place that are super hard to find and not worth the effort. I then realized that a trip to Seoul or out of the country is about the only way to buy American items and get the things we want. Amazingly, to my discovery, after leaving Korea, much much more western products are available in poor and underdeveloped countries like Cambodia. Take a trip to Seoul if you can't wait until your next trip out of country.
If I totally missed it in my 2 day search for western goods in Daegu, then correct me, and help us find these wonderful stores selling large clothes and shoes from the American market like listed on Galbi Jim. I wish I could do more to help, but I just can't see how it is possible after having a look for myself. |

The clothing shops on the service road are on the right side. And there's another on a corner on the left side, closer to the gate. Bear in mind that these stores tend to carry more sports-related apparel more than anything. There used to be at least one store in the mix that had women's clothing. I'd recommend stopping in at one of the places that cater a lot to foreign wives, such as the manicure places, etc...and ask them for where these stores are at, assuming that they haven't closed down. In the meantime, I'll do some Naver-lurking to see where plus-sized Koreans in Daegu buy their clothes and will update the wiki accordingly. Sorry for the hassle. |

Ok, there is a store in the underground mall of Banwoldang Stn called Aiola, and they sell clothing for plus-sized women. Will keep you posted if anything turns up for men.
Also, if the Gyodong black market in downtown didn't help find what you need, you usually can't go wrong with Costco. That should be your first place before visiting black markets anywhere in Korea. If you have something specific that you're looking for in Daegu, and you still can't find it, let me know and I'll do a local search on Naver. |
