Does this mean I can go crazy and run amuck in Korea because of cultural differences? You guys in the expat community will speak on my behalf right? Tell 'em how hard it is to adjust and all. I just want to be popular! |

Cho said parents were considering moving the girls out of Auckland. One of the girls may have to return to Korea if her study permit is not renewed. The schools needed to be more supportive of its Asian students and help them settle as once the thousands had been paid in international fees "they don't care", he said.
They don't care.. hahaha.. Thats right we don't care about individual actions wesern society values self control what and that seems to be missing from Korean society once they are out and about. |

Yeah, it would be insane to hold a teen to the same standards as an adult. If that were so, we'd look back on our teen years with terrible embarrassment and mortification. An ESL teacher and a school kid are not equivalents. |

| Isn't this just good ol' fashioned Korean bullying? I remember reading a similar story that occurred in Korea. Actually, a similar thing happened in America recently now that I think of it. |

| Come to think of it, what these gals really need is a good long stint in prison where all they have time for is practicing their English. |

this is such BS!
i moved from a private muslim girls school where i went from grade 1-8 in asia, where i was "denied romantic relationships" and forced to study all the time, to an "open" canadian highschool and i certainly didn't go fucking crazy and kidnap, burn and torture some chick who stole my boyfriend.
that was such an apologist article! |

Agreed.
How about this quote..."The schools needed to be more supportive of its Asian students and help them settle..."
Riiiight. It's the schools fault. According to the Korean interviewee, the Korean girls were the real victims because they couldn't adjust to the cultural differences. Typical Korean apologist tripe.
Yeah, crap like this could happen anywhere in the world, but people should be accountable for their actions and mistakes, not have excuses made for them. Just because someone comes from Korea doesn't make them special. |

Yes.
And what's the BS about Asian (Korean) culture denying teenagers romantic love? have a look around on a Friday or Saturday night in Seoul. Not much denial going on if you ask me.

Indeed.
"New zealand society is too open" is the resounding conclusion. Well we all know where the blame lies now I guess. |

So do I and I'd say that perhaps 5% of them have anything approaching a real boyfriend.
I have to say, though, that I can't imagine the six very worst girls at our school doing something like this. I think there is some sort of no Korea = no rules or standards that happens when some kids get shipped overseas. And it wouldn't surprise me if at least a few of these ones were rich brats who couldn't cope with the expectations of the Korean school system, so their parents thought NZ might be an alternative and get them out of their hair for a while. |
