Hi
Could anyone offer me a good weigh up of a situation. I have two offers, one for a place called Goyang City and another for Gwanark in Seoul. they both sound like good teaching institutes, both teaching elementary to middle school. One is offering more money on a contracted 120 hour basis.
Does anyone know anything about the two districts? As a thirty year old woman, who doesn't want to party so much but would like to be close to amenities and ex-pat systems in Seoul or Goyang, which is the better choice?
Thanks

Choose Seoul, cuz then you'd be close to me and we could date. |

Go with the job in Seoul. Gwanak is near Seoul National University. It's not the most exciting hood in the world, but it's in Seoul and has easy access to stores and eateries. Plus, you have some pretty good hiking around there.
Find a subway map of Seoul and look for 'NAKSONGDAE' Station, which I believe is the closest to where you'll be.
Cheers, and good luck to you. |

Yeah, make sure that it is "Gwanak gu"which encompasses areas like Naksongdae, SNU, Bongcheon, Shillim etc and not "Gwanak Station" which is on the other side of Gwanak mountain and quite a bit away from the city. |

I think the closest subway stop is Hagok? Is this any good?

Remember "Cohiba's Rule":
Think twice before you live outside of Seoul. "In Seoul" and
"outside of Seoul" are like two different countries. Seoul
is an interesting place with variety and venues for most
tastes. Outside of Seoul you will find a homogeneous Korean
culture. I don't mean this in a bad way, but you will never
find things like: French, Greek, Indian or any other ethnic
foods. Markets that sell sherry, pate, pastrami, ricotta cheese.
Specialty shops that sell dart accessories, cuban cigars or
cowboy boots.
The FFF RULE: FFF=Fun For Foreigners.
If FFF in Seoul = 100, then FFF decreases at
1/distance. So 2km from Seoul FFF=1/2(100)=50;
10km from Seoul FFF=1/10(100)=10. This rule is
a rule for nightlife, food and foreign products only.
Nature etc. is on a different scale altogether.
This means you will be wasting a lot of time commuting
to Seoul. This is especially a drag if you have been
boozing on a Friday night and there are no buses or
trains.
I, unfortunately, live "near" Seoul where the FFF factor
is almost in the negative range. I know! |
