4 hours. But all within the 8-4:30 school day.
One hour - Tuesday and Thursday morning.
Two hours - Wednesday afternoon. |

Yep. If I asked for more then I'm sure it'd be forthcoming either from my school or Office of Education. But four hours is enough for me. Means an extra 320 000 a month.
The next few weeks is going to be broken up a bit with national holidays. |

I have an interesting deal with my school for overtime. I get paid per kid in each class on a monthly (well 4 week) basis. It sounds weird, but it works out in my favour. If classes are cancelled due to a field trip or holiday, or if I take a sick day I still get paid the same.
I teach 4 extra 40 minute classes a week, if none are cancelled, and this semester I make an extra 400,000 each 4 weeks. This month becuase of all the holidays, sports day and 2 days that I was sick it works out to a lot higher than the regulat overtime rate. |

I'm a little confused now as to what counts as overtime. I've just started after school classes for students (4 hours) and teachers (2 hours).
My regular schedule comes to only 18 hours and I have no problem making up to the 22 required by the contract. But they don't start until 4:30. Since the GEPIK contract says working hours are 8:30 - 4:30 shouldn't I be paid extra regardless of how many "normal" hours I do? |

Yes, you should.
Gyeonggi; they can ask you to do up to 28 a week within regular school hours.
They pay you OT for anything over 22.
If it's after 4:30, they gotta pay you for staying late. If they are uncomfortable with this, get in touch with the main office where they are not so bent on saving money and may actually wish to keep teachers happy.
EDIT: I do 20 regular hours and 4 after-school hours per week.
Offered 8 hours a week at 25K/hour but not really manageable for me.
BTW; many Korean teachers stay till 8 or 9pm at HS. After school class starts at 5, with a dinner hour at 6 and the 1 or 2 more classes . They can be getting as little as 15K per day for OT.

| The way GEPIK contracts are worded is funny to me. It says something to the effect that you may be asked to work outside regular school hours. I take this to mean they can ask, but you can say 'no'. Why didn't they go ahead and say 'must'? |

| 3 hours a week at my high school. Good kids they're fun to teach. Once a month we order in some pizza and eat together. |

I do about 40 hours of non-teaching overtime per week. I didn't want to, but they showed me the contract clause where it says the principal is permitted to request anything of the teacher. I get 6,000 won per hour as the contract says, so it works out to 960,000 won per month.  |

How'd you get that good deal from a public school? |

This was what they offered me, at first I didn't really like the idea becuase I didn't know how many kids would sign up. I was worried that I would end up teaching for less than 20,000.
My school is really small and they don't make any money off the classes. The parents pay 10,000 won a month for their kid to have 2 extra classes a week, and all the money goes to me. The principal just wanted to offer extra classes to keep the moms happy. |

What do you do for 40 extra hours a week? What hours are you at your school each day?
