Hi, I'm a Canadian certified teacher (B'ed) and I was interested to know what the best route to a good job may be.
I would like to teach and travel for a few years. I've been reading quite a bit on these boards. Can I demand higher pay having a B'Ed rather then just a normal BA?
Also I would want a situation where my flight ticket is pre paid. The housing reasonable, not a rat trap with no furniture and full of bugs.
Any suggestions? |

There are a number of jobs open to people who have B-Eds and the starting wages offered tend to be 2.4 million Won or higher (with most being around 2.8 or higher).
You can take work anywhere and accept the standard 2.0M starting wage, but you might as well work for a place that pays more.
My cousin was suppose to come over with his B-Ed and take a job starting at 2.8, but instead decided to do government work. |

CdnTeacher-
You'll save much more here than you would teaching in public schools in Canada - I know, having spent most of the last ten years teaching in both countries. Having said that, the above quote from Captain Obvious is nonsense. He posted the same nonsense on the old board a month ago and (like now) was unable to back the claim up with names of schools - particularly his use of the word "most". He rarely backs anything up, in classic troll tradition.
A Canadian with a BEd (or a MEd like me) will only see those kinds of wages at top universities that rarely if ever post, or at international schools (which only hire at highly competitive job fairs held in Europe and N America around this time of year). US DoD schools also pay high salaries but won't hire Canadians. MOST jobs pay substantially lower than 2.8. However, the low cost of living (free apartment, free utilities too in my case) means I save far far more than I ever did teaching high school in Canada.
By all means, come. There are many advantages to working here. And get the best deal you can, with the best working conditions. But don't believe the BS the Captain is spewing here. It's his hobby. He's a troll. |
