I recently found out that the so called author Jeff Mohamed published my private email in his book without my permission. On top of that , he wrote false information concerning me, listing me as a so called ESL recruiter in Korea. The worst thing is that he NEVER contacted me or asked permission to see if his information was correct before putting it in his book. The only time my real email address was listed on an internet website (Dave's esl cafe) was when i was trying to help one of my old hagwons find a new person to replace me and i actually liked the owner but had gotten a job at a university. I was not listed as a recruiter, just as a contact address. I am assuming he took my email address from the Dave's ESL Web site under the korean job listing when it was on there literally years ago. So, since the book was published I have been receiving periodic emails from people looking for jobs in Korea. This has been going on for 2 years and finally I was able to get to the source of the problem. If he is giving out wrong info. in his book who knows what else is a lie or made up.
Mods if you think this should go in the job discussion board, put it there too. Thanks alot jeff (notice the sarcasm) if you are reading this message. The name of the book is "Teaching English Overseas, A job guide for Americans and Canadians" 3rd ed. 2003. Take everything in the book with a grain of salt since obviously the guy has no qualms about publishing private and false information in it.

Do you know what his screen name is? I would rather email him using the function on here that you can send private messenges since if he uses a screen name, he is not likely to respond to a post directly if I title it with his name..
BUt, since he has no problems making my email public to the world, I have no problem telling the world that he does not research his books well enough and does not exhibit professionalism if he is a real writer.
Chronic Pride:
Thanks for the link, i was able to pull an email address off it for him. Have to wait and see now if he responds to my not so nice email. |

The ESL Cafe's Dave Sperling says that Jeff Mohamed's Teaching English Overseas: A TEFL Jobs Guide "is truly the finest job guide available for Americans and Canadians." To find out about the latest edition of this bestselling job guide, click here. |
I see no reference anywhere on this website to what's claimed to be Dave Sperling's recommendation.

Jeff's posts under his own name. So we will be easy to find. He is an advocate for the CELTA on the teacher training program...and to be honest is thought of as a rather good guy. Very reasonable when answering questions and very helpful...maybe there is some good reason behind all this... |

If you made your email address public in some fashion then it's not really private. Although, he's probably a dufus getting your role in this world wrong. Wanna sue him for libel? |

I would say that you have a good chance at getting some coin from him, if you decide to take it to court. |

Jeff Mohamed was the head teacher-trainer in my CELTA course and I can vouch for him as all around good guy and knowledgable ESLer.
Probably just some screw up in note taking while he was compiling info for his book. I'd go ahead and PM on the teacher training board and see what he says.

That's true of us gurus. The rest of you, I'm not so sure about.
Say, where'd my quote go? |
