I've had it with the games and bs and lack of planning etc and told the boss I'm leaving in 30 days. I now realise it wasn't the wisest way to get out with my last salary intact and wonder if I have any leverage against his upcoming games.
Assuming he knocks my pay down with silly bs and lies, do I have any recourse? I'm most likely leaving within 5 days of getting paid. Will it help if I threaten to call Labor, Pension, and Tax boards on his crooked ass? What about brandishing a list of parents' phone numbers and letting him know that I will call them and tell them of his antics if I don't receive the balance of my pay?
I really don't know what to do or expect at this point, but am planning for the worst. This is Korea after all. |

You threw the gauntlet. Time to pay the piper - shit or get off the toilet.
Don't threaten to call the tax / pension / NHIC. Just do it and FILE THE COMPLAINTS. IF there are outstanding claims with labor (late/unpaid wages, etc.), file a complaint with them too.
He will certainly react and is less likely to screw with you while you have the complaints in hand. He will be too busy trying to clear his butt with the government to add further misery to his life by adding to your formal complaints. He will just be glad to pay you off and have you out of his life and away from the government to testify.
IF you DON'T file the complaints you can just bend over and kiss your last month goodbye. Phone calls get you no-where. File the complaints or lose it all.

Good if he threatens you first. Do it anyway once you're out.
Carefulhe may sue you for damaging his reputation even though it's true. Brandish, then let his own paranoia make up the rest. You could just say you like these students and want to say goodbye to them and their parents.
How long you been there anyway? |

Been there for less than a year.
I think I'll just tell him I'm going to call the parents and see if they won't buy me a ticket out of this shit hole because I can't afford it on my own. |

That would set you up for a lawsuit AND be grounds for immediate dismissal AND negate your claims (if any) at the labor office.
Hope you got someone who can front you the ticket home.
Good luck dude. You're gonna need it.

We are not in the position to dictate the terms. If you are going to do anything, make sure you have money in the bank or someone to help finance your actions. If you don't, you are best to pretend being nice and enjoying every minute of your last days of working there.
Get your final pay, then ask yourself what you are asking now. Will it be worth it?
The best advice I got was in Japan from a union in Osaka. They said there were more schools out there and it ain't worth anklebiting your current employer.
Get a blacklist out on the internet and make it easy to find on google. Strength to the wise. Number one tip should be DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST OFFER YOU GET FROM RECRUITERS.
They will push you to take the offer and not contact you later as "punishment". Apply weeks later, and surprise, they have another school for you. WAIT UNTIL YOU FIND A GOOD SCHOOL.

For two reasons:
- It's a threat to damange his reputation with the paying customers of his business.
- It's a threat to interfere with the operation of his business.
The Labor Board will see that as an egregious malicious act on your part against your employer. |

Working in Korea is like playing a game--one where you have to outwit and outrun those who are after your health and gold!
