Dear readers,

Thank you all for your help yesterday in my problem with my school wanting to close down the English part. I have a funny feeling that my boss is going to ask me what do I want to cancel my contract.

My contract is very fair and states that the school can't cancel it without me killing a student or such. I am 9 months into my contract.

What should I ask for?? I want to be fair, but then again he's the one breaking the contract, driving the BMW 740IL. He can't claim he has no money he own's the building and is bulding on another level.

Best regards, Michael

Try hitting him up for your severance pay (though he's not obliged to pay it or even a portion of it) and then negotiate down, if necessary to a 3/4 severance bonus payment for the 9 months you've worked. An airfare home would also be nice. And a Letter of Release (in case you want to get another job before the term of your current visa is up).

I would figure that 1 month's pay would be 'enough', or even 9/12ths of your bonus (seeing as you completed 9 months at the school).

I don't know if you'll be going back home or finding another job in Korea, but you could probably factor in around 2-3 weeks of not working between this job and your next, so it wouldn't really be too right to ask for much more than what you'd miss out on if you had been working.

Thanks, that's the figure I was thinking of. I think 3/4 of the bonus money plus the air fair. I have been at the school for 21 months (second contract)
and I never asked/got an increase in my wages. I just liked working there so I thought I'd rather earn less and be happy.
