Hey dantley...
Sorry, I don't have much advice...I just wanted to send you a shout from a fellow bluenoser...I tried to PM you but I don't have a lot of posts on this board so it wouldn't let me.
Where're you from?
Maybe the Embassy can help you out? |

Statutory Declaration? I heard that you can write one up and take it along to the Canadian Embassy with a printout CRC from Canada? You need to get one online? It is the same for Americans, but we call it an Affidavit. I went that route and the Immigration officials denied it, after they processed my visa, basically they took it away from me after they gave it to me.
I don't know what to tell you. I am not from Canada. I had to send a printout back to the States to an apostille service, for a hefty fee, but I had my apostiled and notarized CRC back in a week.
Look up Apostiling Agencies in Canada online.
In the meantime ask your employer to take you to immigration and have your visa status switched to tourist status. This is what I did until the CRC came in. As long as you aren't issued an exit order you should be okay. |

I don't envy you at all, this process sucks.
First, Canada didn't join the Hague agreement regarding apostilles (1961) therefore: we don't do it. You'll have to have it taken to notary public or a lawyer to get notarized.
Oh yeah, and the purpose of notarizing documents in canada is to mark a COPY to affirm that an official agrees that it is the same as the ORIGINAL. Notarizing an original is useless (kind of like carrying a bucket of salt water to the sea) and its also illegal (a lawyer isn't supposed to mark up the queen's documents). SO they will MAKE a copy and notarize THAT (but not before you pay $50).
Second, its not so much the record check thats the pain in your ass, its finding out WHICH TYPE of record check you need. In Nova Scotia there are probably at least three: 1. RCMP: big f*cking deal that requires finger prints and the promise of your first born son, 2. In Ontario its called a 'Vulnerable Sector Screening Check' its slightly more complicated than a name check, thats what I got. 3. a name check, probably printed on toilet paper.
I WOULD advise you to call the immigration office, but they rarely know. I would go in person and make them tell you what to get to your face and write it down. Make them sign the paper that they write on. Seriously, I know this sounds nuts, but it is entirely possible to spend hundreds of bucks on a document and then have them tell you that you need something else.
Good luck. If you have any questions feel free to pm me, I might be able to help. |

| Write a Statutory Declaration. The Canadian Embassy was apparently telling people this was the correct way to go about doing this. |

Hi Dantley. I'm from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
I'm in Korea already, about to sign my next contract. I just phoned home, they wrote up my CRC after I send photocopies of my Passport/Driver's Licence, and I had it within the week. The Embassy here will stamp it to show that it is valid.
I'm assuming that from Canada, you should be able to just mail your CRC along with your degree to Korea. Have your CRC go to the Canadian Embassy, and have them stamp it for authenticity. No one has really suggested it but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
From there, I suppose they'd give it over to the Korean government in the same manner than your hagwon/hakgyo will give over your degree. |
