I am looking into the possibility of getting a part time evening job if my school gives me permission. When I look on websites it usually looks like it's recruiters giving 1 or 2 hours of privates a week (which I don't want.)

What I would like is to work part time in a kids or adults hagwon in the evenings but I don't see many of these advertised. Do many people have these gigs?

Is the best way to get them by approaching Hagwons directly? I would imagine some Hagwon owners without a teacher would be up for a token native speaker lesson a few hours a week but I'm not sure...

I teach at a middle school and they started some evening classes.
My Principle sent an e-mail to some of the elementary schools about having me teach some of their kids English at night. Two of the schools agreed to send some of the students to my school at night for me to teach them English.
The students parents pay for the classes and I get all the money. I have been having about 40 students for the two classes we offer at night.
Now they have set up 3 classes of 3 or 4 students for me to teach at school in with the other two classes.
The parents love it because they pay less than they would at a Hagwan.

That sounds like a really good idea. How many classes per week do you teach in the evenings? I think my school might be up for that and so would I...

That would be cool. When you say you get all the money....how much is that?
Any idea what the kids pay per head? I think at the hagwon I worked at, they paid about 5000 a class. A class of 40 would be sweet. Wink

I wouldn't mind setting up something like a public speaking workshop or acting/stage classes. I have some cred here cause a girl I voice coached in my city placed second nationally last year. It's easier to teach kids who were motivated. Just English classes in general might be tough.

So, is it legal on an E2 for a Middle School teacher to teach Elementary School kids as long as it is at the school?

I would guess it is, because the E-2 visa is attached to the address, not the level of the student. Think about it another way. At a hakwon, a foreigner generally teaches all levels, from K to uni to adult professional classes.

Yeah I suppose that's right. I'm gonna look into this with my school and also the possibility of an evening conversation class for adults...
