Like me, many of you are probably frustrated by the blocking of You-tube by the net-nanny system used in many public schools. Many times I've wanted to show a quick video to emphasise a learning point, but to no avail; Mr Babo-seki I.T. guy knows more than me with my I.T degree, apparrently.

Anyway, I managed to find a workaround: Daum cafe usurps anything linked from within it, so if you click on a You-tube link within a Daum cafe site, the url will be a Daum Cafe one - the net-nanny software doesn't pick it up... because as we know, there's no porn in Korea, right?

Check it out - here's the link I used; hopefully it'll work at your school, too:

If you want a "portable" copy, you can download the clip using YouTube Downloader (freeware) and then use convert the clip to an .avi (many other freeware converters online). It sounds more complicated than it is... Then you have a permanent copy.

There's also another simple solution. Explain to your supervisor what a great A/V tool the site is and ask them to have it "unblocked" in the school.

I did this a few weeks ago and it went over swimmingly.

My Net nanny's still blocking it. In fact, along with an English teacher and computer teacher I just sent off a translatd memo to the school district office today.
