I might be working in Dandong and would like to hear what it's like. I know there's a slow boat from Dandong to Incheon so some of you must have visited.
I'd also like to know if it would be likely that there are Korean language lessons there. I heard there is a Korean speaking community mainly from North Korea. |

Sorry i can't give you a lot of Information but I have visited there twice for short periods. It's a small pretty city on the Yellou river whick marks the border with North Korea. You can take bout tours which take you to within a 100 meters of N. Korea. You can clearly see Koreans on their side of the river. The terrain around Dandong is hilly and provides lots of opportunity for hiking.
I'm not sure about a boat directly to Dandong but you can go to Dalian by boat from Incheon(15 hrs) and from there it's 3 or 4 hrs by bus. Dalian is a very nice and much larger city on the coast south of Dandong.
I know there a lot of ethnic Koreans in Dangdong but don't know about schools which offer Korean lessons. I'm sure you could arrange a tutor for a very reasonable price in China.
I taught In dalian for a year and really enjoyed China. Liaoning Province has lots of natural sites, though very touristed. |
