I sustained a knee injury earlier in life and use a cane once in a while. I wonder whether anyone knows about Koreans' general attitudes toward those of us with disabilities. Do they point and stare (any more than usual, I mean)? Is there some cultural disdain, perhaps, for those who aren't perfect physical specimens? Could it affect job prospects?
I am thinking about coming to the beautiful, clean, peaceful, and sparkling land of Korea and it occurs to me to ask whether my cane use will be a problem.
Thanks for any insight, gang. |

They will call you Byeong Shin and spit on you. I am totally serious. Especially in Busan. |

They'll only do that once. What's "byeong shin," anyway? |

| A related case: I was in Busan picking up my sleep meds from my pill pushing doctor and on the way back I saw this blind guy in the tube passageway trying get down the the pissoir so I put my arm through his and guided him down to the urinal, waited and took him back up; all the Koreans were staring at me in shock and horror. Koreans are strange. |

| Well, I can do without it. I only use the cane when it's really cold out or during a severe weather change, but I can manage without it. |

| So they view anything less than perfectly healthy as untouchable, then? |

| Well, if you need a cane you must have a visible limp, right? Really, I wouldn't worry about it the above posters are exaggerating I think. |

It's a cartilage issue. Usually it doesn't hurt at all, but when it does - boy howdy! So you think it's not that bad? |

Don't EVER take anything Miles says seriously. Asking him for advice about Korea is like asking a Klan member for advice about your black girlfriend. |

Thanks for the tip, Scotticus. I've read quite a few posts of his that sound pretty good, however. What do I know, though? I'm just trying to get all the intel I can before I get over there. |

| On a related note, if you want ot have something done about it, I have heard that Korea is a good place to have stuff like that done well, and cheaply. |

Ernie - helluvanidea. Thanks.
Poet - Yeah, man, I've been thinking about having it scoped. I appreciate the tip.
By the way (and off topic), what's Spliff's story? A lot of his posts are useless, inflammatory barbs, but every now and then he posts something that makes me think for a couple of days. Is the man a mad genius or what? |
