I just ckecked. Cheepest round trip ticket from Korea to US is $4,000.
How many of you on the Fall to Fall contract system are willing to pay that much just to get a stupid police check? And with gas prices the way they are maybe by then it will be 5,000$.

And I am just taling about the ticket. Let's not forget all the other fees.
So, what will it be? 1/3 of a years pay for a stupid visa?

Boy am I outta here.

the cheapest i found was $930 before taxes on northwest airlines. (detroit to incheon)
the dates i put in were leaving july 08 and returning august 08.

a one way ticket from detroit to seoul (incheon) on northwest is $438 before taxes. leaving on sept 5 2008.

if you're staying there for a year, buy a one-way ticket there and a one-way ticket back.

[edit]
ah, i see that you were joking about the ticket. didn't read that part.
do not feel alone with your background checks.
i am enjoying reading about the new batch of JETs that are scurrying to get their FBI checks, criminal checks and medical checks.
plus fees to the interview place. it all adds up.

woah woah woah...

For most Americans at least...keeping in mind Canadians don't even need the apostille...but for Americans...why leave just yet?

First...state background checks...through a state department of justice office, or office of public safety...whatever it may be called in your particular state...WILL issue you a criminal check....with a notarization in your absence. You just pay a slightly higher fee.

Notaries aren't that expensive...you're talking 10-15 bucks at most. Then it's a matter of forwarding that to your Secretary of State.

If you have your original diploma...you don't technically need to have an apostille...something I was just made aware of recently.

The one hassle you might have...is a couple of FedEx packages...or having one of your family members accept and forward some mail for you.

Plus...you should read the sticky about authenticating documents here OP.

I'm sticking around...and let my boss pay those airfares.

Cheers!!!

Chicken, really. You need to learn to talk to travel agents. They get much better deals. Getting tickets on the internet is the most expensive way to get tickets.

Sometime during my non stop almost 10 years in Korea.

I heard American Money is now Pink. Is that true.

Oh, and do they have hand phones in US. Never saw my first one until Korea.

And, as far as a family member in US helping me. I guess someone can dig one up and see if after 20 or so years CPR will still work.

There is pink on the money, as well as other colo(u)rs.

Actually, almost all phones are handphones. They have been around since Mr. Bell's time. If you are refering to mobiles or cell phones, they have been around in the US since at least 1987

It isn't that much Kwangjuchicken. Shouldn't be more than 1,700 at full price, unless you are flying business or better.
