I have five weeks of vacation but I work for a small hagwon that only has one other foreign teacher. As far as I know (based on what I was told by the previous teacher here), I don't get any say in when I can use up said vacation time.
I just bought tickets to the Radiohead concert in Tokyo in October (I know this is six months away but I want to start thinking now about how I'm going to handle this). Ideally, I'd like to take off a couple days and spend a bit of time in Tokyo. However, that would mean having to cancel my classes for those days. Do hagwons ever do that? I know every hagwon's different and blah blah blah but I'm just wondering what other people's opinions are on this. Should I try asking and, therefore, risk resentment from the school's director? Or am I almost certainly SOL? And if it is worth a shot to ask, should I do it now, so as to give them lots of notice or should I wait until closer to next semester? |

You should have asked before buying the tickets.
Having already bought them though, I would bring it up now. You will have to bring it up again, trust me. They will "forget" about it. |

Well, originally I was planning on getting tickets for the Saturday concert (there are two) but they sold out so I had to make a quick decision. I could possibly make it back to work for the next day but I'd rather spend a bit more time in Tokyo if possible. |
