|
|
OK,
So I've been doing quite a lot of writing in my spare time at work, and I've been considering purchasing something so that I can write in my spare time at home (when the baby's sleeping). What would you recommend? I don't really need a PC, because I use one at work and don't surf the net too often, and I don't download movies, music, porn, etc. (someone please tell me what I'm missing out on). A PC would be nice, but I think it might be a little bit of a hassle too (expensive and difficult to bring home with me when I decide my time here's up). A laptop I could bring home, but they're so godawful expensive. As for a word processor, I've never used a real one before. Are they tough to deal with? I've heard a few writers still use them, but I really have no desire to "keep it real", so to speak; I just want the cheapest, most appropriate thing for writing in my spare time.
I should also mention that I eventually plan on producing a manuscript, so I'll need something that will best help me do this. I'm a little wary of word processors because the one I had in university was this humongeous thing that had a screen which could only fit two lines of text. It was so bad that I used it once and never again.
I would appreciate any useful advice on this matter.

Why not pick up a used laptop somewhere. You should be able to get a basic one that will suit your needs for very little money, and I didn't even know that people still used independent word processors anymore. |

I'm worried that if I buy a used laptop or PC, I'll end up rueing my decision. I'm very stupid when it comes to computers, and I've always had trouble with used goods in general.
Nevertheless, do you have a ballpark figure for what a good, used laptop might run me? The new models I checked out range from 1,500,000-2,000,000 won. That's a little too high for me, an admitted computer ambivalent (can that be a noun?). |

buy a used desktop and when you move you only need to take the hard-drive or a few CD's. If you are only wordprocessing then microsoft word is perfect for you and you can buy a low powered used PC that will cover more than your needs for 300,000 to 400,000 won. |
