I have searched for this topic with the search function, but I couldn't find the answer.
Do universities tax their teachers the same as hogwans and public schools? Should it also be the standard 1.7%? My friend got her first paycheck yesterday, and she was taxed at 6%. I gave her the links to the tax calculation site that I found, but I wanted to ask first if the taxes should be calculated the same as for other schools.
Thanks |

They could tax me 20% for all I care...it's the government that ultimately collects the 1.5-3%, leaving you with a fat refund. Come December just make sure you remind the accounting department (your school should file for you and deposit the refund into your first paycheck of the new year) that you are a foreigner and you qualify for a 30% income exclusion on your taxes...you'll be getting a huge refund as when we are taxed they rarely take that into account. It helps keep me in line with my saving habits. |

Probably a lot easier to just have them fix the tax deductions now instead of hoping for a fat refund later. I would point out how much you should be taxed. |

As far as I know, university jobs are taxed at (roughly) the same rate - though there may be some variation for salary. 6 % seems high, unless they're including health insurance premiums. |
