What is there to see in Hong Kong. I know that there is Disney World and other places.
I am mostly interested in seeing local nature sights, small downtown markets, and maybe museums.
Also does anyone know if it's possible to book a sort of cruise on those ships (with the ancient looking sails) that sail near Victoria Bay.
Also, do you have any recommendation on cheap but not trashy places to stay.
Any answers will be helpful. Thanks |

There is a giant buddha at Lantau Island. Its quite nice. U can take a cable car [which is 30 minutes one way and kinda long n scary]. But the view is good. U can see the airport, the planes, buidlings. Kinda scary.
There is The Peak which u can go via the Tram which scales the height at an angle. The view from the Peak is quite nice particularly in the night. There is a Mdm Tussuad Wax Museum at the Peak too.
If you have a smart phone, u can search for some apps for HK such as the metro map, things to do, etc. |

Lots to see and do in hong kong..
In kowloon, there is the jade market and lots of fake goods markets around to hit up for shopping. Also there is the hong kong equivilent of hollywood walk of stars on the boardwalk..
On Hong Kong island, there is more of a nightlife and also a SOHO style neighborhood -- where you can relax at a cafe and pop into some boutique shops.
My favorite was Lamma island though, just really laid back and not very populated. Some nice beaches and good hiking trails.
As someone mentioned above, the big Buddha on Lantau is a must see -- definitely take the cable car. You can also take a quick ferry ride to Macau for a day too to see some old portugese architecture and get your casino fix.
Good luck. |

That cable car ride was on a recent episode of Running Man, a Korean TV show. It has a glass bottom, and goes over the water. Looks pretty awesome and pretty terrifying as well. |

Not to beat a dead horse, but Bourdain's The Layover just went there and might be helpful. |

The big Buddha was the only thing I particularly enjoyed. Otherwise, I found HK extremely drab and disappointing - particularly with regard to food. HK is the only place I've ever been to where I've eaten McDonalds two days in a row.
Tip: Absolutely everything (but particularly restaurants) in HK is inside shopping malls. If you try to look on the streets for somewhere to eat, you'll be searching forever.
Another tip: Kowloon is a dump. Very similar to Namdaemun in Seoul - crowded, dirty, ugly and just not very good. |

Sergio, is there anything in this world that excites you?? Or hell, even like more than just a little? Besides working in Saudi? |
