|

I've been reading a few Korean netizen sites that write about what we post on Daves. I found it interesting how the majority of the sites describe Dave's as an "American Netizen Site" or "These are the opinion of Americans" or "Foreigner Thoughts (US)", etc...
I don't think the Koreans realize that we are from countries all over the world, not just the US. But, the things we talk about here get read by Korean netizens and a lot of the things on here aren't flattering to Korea. The Koreans think these are purely "American" thoughts and discussions, so I guess when they read them, they hatred for Americans grow. |

To be honest, in my experience, Canadians are more prevalent as English teachers than Americans. And lately more English folks seem to be here as well. At my last hagwon there were 2 Englishmen and a Canadian. |

Exactly, but Korean Netizens don't bother to take note of the fact that there are OTHER people where besides Americans.
No wonder Koreans hate US so much. Americans are taking all the heat for all the trash talking that Americans, Canadians, Australians, UK, NZ, South Africans do on this board. |

There are more Americans here than Canadians, by somewhere in the 1000 range, give or take a few hundred. I read this in the Korea Herald in March when the new visa regulations were up in the air. |

Thats surprising. I meet a lot more Canadians than Americans. For every American I meet that teaches, there are 2 Canadians. |

Doesn't surprise me, my experiences being purely anecdotal. However, that's fairly close, and given the huge population difference (America has 300 million citizens Canada about 35 million), proportionate to population more Canadians come.

We're all taking it. because unless you walk down the street with a T-shirt declaring that you are not american, they assume you are and act accordingly. |

They have my permission to translate my post onto there silly little geek-sites. |

Cause most Koreans are Hobbits and they haven't been out of their cave.. IE AptUH they don't know the fucking difference because NO SANE person would EVER come to this country for any other reason then to make money..
Sorry to Korea and Koreans but this country/culture (surface) offers absolutley nothing of a redeeming quality. Not saying there isn't anything but generaly speaking why would any one come here besides to make money teaching english.
I love Korea don't get me wrong, I enjoy living here and working here but I would NEVER recommand any one to come and visit and vacation here.
You have to live a long time here to discover the truly great things about Korea but for people with short amount of time and limited budget Korea on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the worse I would rank at it -10 for vacationing and experiencing grand things.
This is why they think everyone here is an American cause NO other nationality or race wants to come here. Thus they are isolated with little or no exposure to the international community. |

Don't have the exact statistics on me today. But in terms of E-2 visas Americans are 6000+ with Canadians coming in a close second at 5000+. I saw the report yesterday when I was asking about E-2 visa rules over at the Immigration Bureau. If someone wants the exact numbers let em know and I'll make a couple phone calls.\ |

Maybe Canadians are more social, which explains why you see so many around in places like the bar. Or maybe because there are many Canadians who work here illegally on their 6 month landing visa.
Americans only get a 30 day tourist visa, which makes it difficult for them to work and live in Korea without getting a work visa. |

That's not quite true. There is a higher percentage of Canadians when compared to Americans, but, in terms of numbers, there are more Americans in Korea according to the numbers I saw last year. |
