While at homeplus I saw that they are going to start selling them starting from the 26th. I also saw them on sale on Danawa.com for about 220,000 won.

I'll either get a Wii or a 360 for GTAIV. I had both back in the states and got more mileage out of my 360, but since I spend little time in my officetel here in Korea, I'll probably split a 360 with my girlfriend just for GTAIV.

And to think , I actually gave away my game systems before I left...

/doh!

Unless you have a lot of parties/guests over, or unless your gf is actually going to really play, I'd suggest the 360. I bought both here in Korea, and honestly, Wii is great fun, but only when busted out amongst guests. I never play it alone, because there just aren't any good solo games on it (outside of Super Mario Galaxy, which is quite great).

360 for yourself, Nintendo DS for your gf (bought one for my wife- she loves that thing). Everybody wins. Plus, of course there is no GTA IV on Wii, so what's the point?

your avatar is hypnotizing. Can't stop watching. Anyways not a big gamer. I think the wii would be good for me. I think the concept is interesting. Also I don't really want to get to involved in some of these games. If I were inclined for a more serious console I think I would lean toward the PS3 rather than the 360 since it can play DVDs and Blu Ray.

Can a Korean Wii console be switched to play in English? No problem buying new games in Korea and playing them in English, right?

The games will be only in Korea.. unless you get it modd'ed and then download English games. I would also be pretty confident in saying that the software on the wii (menus etc) would be Korean as well

What's the story with the Korean DS? Is it all Korean and only plays Korean games? (unmodded) It will probably be similar for the Wii.

Have you guys been to any of the stores selling the Wii. I've never seen a sadder display. When I went to homever, they had a display of boxes with the Wii sitting there and the TV on the load screen, and no remote.

At Emart they only had the display stand with boxes on it. no machine or anything. LOL

They're never going to sell this with that kind of sad promotion. They need a guy in there demo'ing it. They'd be flying off the shelves if the kids could see how it's played. Heck, even a video demo...geesh.

The DS isn't really modded. You use a chip (R3, R4, TT etc) that emulates a cartridge. You have a mini sd disk that goes into it. The software on the chip can be in English or Korean. The games on the chip will be in the language that you download them in.

As for the sad display.. agreed.. I saw one at homever yesterday. 40,000 for wii sports. Shocked

Makes me think the 220,000 is with no games.. unlike in N.A where it is $269 and you get wii sports.. so pretty much the same.

So we bit down and bought a 360 this weekend at Technomart. Got the 20gig unit w/ 2 wireless controllers, BioShock and Gears of War (both "new", the guy in the wheelchair claimed) and we couldn't be happier. With GTA IV coming out this week, and a Guitar Hero 3 purchase on the horizon, we're happily set up to entertain others or rapidly become hermits.

I agree with the pathetic Wii set ups. Saw them at Emart and Shinsayge today and it was truly sad. Just boxes really and a video. We played around with Wii tennis at Technomart just for fun and quickly drew a very excited crowd when they saw a two foreigners leaping about and swinging the controls like crazy monkeys.
