it is one of my prized possessions which I am taking to Korea (yes, it's worth lugging it)

but I dare not fry it or damage it in any ways.

What is the best/safest power converter I can use for it?

it's rated for 120V AC, 60Hz and 43 W.

I'm usually the last person to offer advice on what to bring, but...seriously, a boombox?

yeah, I want to have tunes in my place. What's wrong with that?
and no.. having them on my laptop isn't remotely the same.

sound difference is like night and day and I have many intricate CD's I have made thru the years.

But what about a laptop with some $50 speakers? Likely better than your boombox, and will save you a pile of space.

my boombox is the JVC Kaboom series. I've never heard comparable sound quality with ANY set of computer speakers (though the Altec Lansings with subwoofer on my desktop at home are pretty good)

space? I mean it's a boombox.. how much space is it going to take? Smile
sure it's a slight pain lugging it to location - but a joy to have around once there.

I'm all for boomboxes and all, but if you stroll through many department stores in Korea, it will be difficult to find stereo systems with monster speakers. You will only find cheap-looking mini-stereo systems. But no ginormous ghetto blasters. If your boombox is of the near PA 18" subwoofer type you might not make a good neighbor in your apartment. I had a JVC Gigatube I wanted to bring back from the U.S. but was convinced that it would be more trouble than it was worth.

I'll figure it out.. I like having it around.. and it's been my companion in many places around the world.

the soldiers and customs guys at airports in Latin America would always crowd around the thing asking me questions. Invariably someone asks how much I want for it... LOL

Like taking a ham sandwich to a banquet. This is not central America.

It sounds like it only draws a couple amps. (43 watts / 110volts = 0.4 amps)

Any VOLTAGE converter (240VAC -110VAC) with a rating of more than 50 watts and 2 amps should be fine.

You can find one at any major department store (e-mart, home plus, lotte mart), your local hardware store or at Yongsan electronics market (Nanjin arcade would be a good place to look).

hehe..

I'm sure, in fact I KNOW the state of electronics in Korea is pretty comparable to what we have at home, but I like my boombox nonetheless.

Thanks for the answer.. if I can get one at E-mart that should work.

they decided to re-continue the Kaboom line.. which is excellent news.
