I once nearly set fire to Jay from Jamiroquai's hat. He was wearing it at the time.

Cool.
And, you know, that doesn't strike me as a person someone would lie about. Where did you meet him? |

Mid-80s, before the age of private jets for teams, I guess. My family and I were flying from Calgary to LA on our way to Mazatlan for Christmas holiday, on the same flight as the Edmonton Oilers, on their way to play the Kings. They were spread out throughout the plane, so we just walked up and down the aisles getting autographs - Gretzky, Messier, Lowe, Kurri, McSorley, Coffey, Fuhr, and Sather.
Working room service at the Ramada hotel while I was in university, I delivered food to most of the WWE wrestlers at one time or another (nicest - The Undertaker, biggest - Yokozuna, rudest - Honkytonk Man, best tipper - Randy Savage). Also met Alex Trebek and Joan Baez in the course of food-deliverin' duties. |

I passed within two feet of Richard Belzer last week, but I can't say I met him.
It was still quite a thrill. |

I stood next to Arnold Schwarzenegger up at the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio. Well I stood next to one of his bodyguards. It was cool to see a celebrity taking in the sights, pointing at things & taking photos. |

Martin Sheen and I had a pleasant lunch until his son Charlie and his girlfriend came by and snubbed me.
Details on at least two of the several "what famous person have you met?" threads that are around here. |

Linda Hamilton, James Carville and Larry, Darrel and Darrel from the old sitcom Newhart
I've touched famous band members front the front row in concerts, but that doesn't count (Prodigy, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Digital Underground, etc.) |

I waited tables for ten years and met/saw a lot of celebrities. My first encounter with one would shape the way I approached the others
My brother and I used to bus tables at a Ruby Tuesdays in Duluth, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. A lot of athletes (current or former Braves, Falcons, and Hawks players) lived in McMansions out there. One day my brother came up to me and said Dude! Brett Butler is in my section!
Butler was a solid (if unspectacular) center fielder who the Braves had recently traded to the Dodgers. We walked up to his table where he was having dinner with his family:
Brother: I just want you to know that trading you was the worst mistake the Braves ever made!
Me: Yeah, you hit over .300 last year!
Butler: (Looks at us, says nothing)
Me: (Realizes that Butler probably knew that he hit over .300 last year and slinks away from table).
After that I never approached celebrities; however, I later waited on, met, or saw:
 Skip Caray (Braves broadcaster)
Ray Goff (shitty Georgia Bulldogs coach)
The Crash Test Dummies (who were dining at a Longhorn Steaks in bumblefuck Conyers, Georgia)
 Scottie Pippen
I later worked at Jazz Alley in Seattle, where I chatted with a ton of musicians, including:
 McCoy Tyner (great guy)
Elvin Jones (also a great guy that man had the biggest hands Ive ever shook)
 Max Roach
 Diana Krall
 Tito Puente
 Taj Mahal
Mick Jagger (he was there to see Taj, but I didnt talk to him)
 Eartha Kitt
Chris Cornell and Nancy Wilson (they were there to see Eartha; again, it took a great deal of restraint to not talk to him, since I loved Soundgarden) |
