There are loads of cheap places around both Daegu and Dongdaegu stations.

I know a super cheap one for 20,000won that is about a 5 minute walk from downtown Daegu nightlife. Problem is that its a traditional yeogwan, ie., you'll have your own room w/ TV, bathroom, shower, etc...but no bed. Just a warm floor with blankets and pillows. To get there, go to the south entrance of Kyungpook Natl University (same entrance as to get to their ER). With your back to the entrance, walk straight towards the small street running south. Walk for a few short blocks and look for the red and white 여관 sign on the right. The price for the basic room was 20,000 won 3-4 yrs ago, so I'm not sure if its been since bumped up to 25k. But to get to the downtown nightlife area by Samdeok Fire Station, go back the way you came to the hospital and turn left, cross to the other side of the street and go down the alley that has C-Space on your right. If you follow this alley for 3-4 minutes, you'll come to the next big street and if you look across and to your right, you'll see the fire station and the busy road next to it that leads to the center of downtown.

Second that. There's lots of places within 5-10 minutes walking distance from the train station in Dong-Daegu. The further you go, the less sleazy they are too (from the train station).

The Mellow Inn behind Jin-suk tower is very nice and although people probably use it to get action, its always been very quiet when I've stayed there. Get the 45,000 room not the 40,000, its much nicer for the 5000 won.
