The "iTB drive" thread got me thinking about hardware failures, which in turn caused me to think of some items I have that just never die.

1. A 6GB Fujitsu HDD. It was made in 1999, has been around the world on a ship, and get this: I opened it up once to explore the inner sanctum of the HDD, put it back together and to this day, it works like a champ.

2. A Pentium 3 800E. Been around the world as well, in countless systems, overclocked always and in my kids computer, it has been severely overheated for long periods of time. Still works to this day.

3. P4V800 mainboard. Like the P3, this thing has seen some pretty rough treatment. Still runs well.

4. An old JVC boom box. Was underwater (basement flooded) for a few days...dried it out and viola!

5. My Panasonic camcorder. Dropped it in a river about 5 years ago. Still running well.

Anyone else have some trooper hardware stories?

- I have a gold-plated JVC cassette walkman with built-in radio and recorder. Bloody hell I didn't know where Dad got that from but I was in high school back then and the thing still ticks over haha.

- My notebook is coming to 4.5 years and I must be the last person still running on a Pentium M. All the original parts are still working, I only replaced the measly 256mb RAM with 1GB (because 170,000 yen was still expensive back then for a 1.4Ghz 256mb with only a 40GB hard disk). I can't ever see my "N" key anymore.

A Tiger Ozone scooter in Thailand.

5 years old. Has been ran on no oil, bits have fallen off it, exhaust hung off for 6 months,

Even rode the bike down m y drive way into a flood up to my waist, completely sumberged the bike and it fell over still running. Stopped running and I thought it was fucked.

Took it out gave it two kicks and it started first time.

Amazing;y shit bike but it just kept on going.

I have an LG 2GB USB stick that's been through our washing machine- twice.

I'm still using the cheapy Samsung PC keyboard that I got when I came to Korea back in 2001. I've lost count of how much food and drinks been spilt on it.

An early 70's Selmer 50watt guitar amplifier. Valve/tube. Exactly like this one.



I bought it off a guy in the mid 80's. As a teenager I abused that amp every which way. Many a night it had to be the sole amp for two guitars, a bass and a drum machine. All turned up way too loud. My miserly bandmates never got their own amps so we all played through mine.

It has also been pushed out the back of a moving van by an angry Egyptian. Long story.

It has also suffered the indignity of amplifying techno music for 12 hours straight at a students millenium eve party in 1999.

The only thing I ever had to do was replace a frayed power cord.

They don't make 'em like that anymore!

My old Epson Apex Pc. 3.6 mhz processor. Mono chrome screen and a nice 5.25" flopp drive. Thing still works.
