To all Canadians,
Great news.
I went to get my Criminal Record Check done recently, and applied for it with IFS which is International Fingerprinting Services.
They are a completely legal company which is run through the RCMP I believe and they basically are doing outsourcing for the police.
Anyways, I am of course getting the "vulnerable" check done, and this will only take me 1 week.
And the fee is the EXACT same as the $35 at regular police stations.
WOW, talk about cheap and easy.
Meanwhile, the police station in St. Catharines is 10 minutes away and they take 3 weeks to get it done. I can verify this because I was there in person. Instead I came back to Niagara Falls and went to IFS that afternoon and I'll have it within 1 week's time.
Also, they said there are offices in just about all major cities through Canada and that they get the CRC check done faster than normal police stations
Hopefully this can help someone.
Good luck. |

I need one done this week. How can I get a hold of them, and can I do this from Korea/have it sent to Korea for an extra charge? Thanks. |

I have the business card but there is no website. Unfortunately, I am not sure if you can do this from overseas.
Company Name:
International Fingerprinting Services Canada (IFSC) Ltd.
4673 Ontario Ave., Unit #103
Niagara Falls, Ontario, L2E 3R1
Phone #: (905) 353-1775
Fax #: (905) 353-1779
The office hours are Monday-Friday 9am - 3pm.
I suggest calling them to get specifics.
Good luck |

Here is the website:
http://www.policecheck.com/
Doesn't mention anything about people living overseas, but I sent them an email to see if it is possible. Perhaps if others do the same they may see the financial potential in doing overseas checks. |

Well this would have been helpful 3 months ago! I was lucky though my father is friends with a St. Catharines detective so mine got done pretty quickly. |

Aren't you suppose to get that and a criminal background check from the headquarters of your city's police? |

You mean, your city in Korea? I don't think so... I've never heard of that. |

I'm pretty sure they mean in Canada because I was told I had to have it done at my local office.
I had to have one done in Daegu to get my Alien card. |

To satisfy the requirements of the Immigration Service for an E-2 visa, a background check must be obtained from the applicant's home country.
After arrival on the E-2 visa, the applicant must obtain a health check in Korea for issuance of the alien registration certificate (card).
There is NO requirement from Immigration for the applicant to obtain a Korean background check. Immigration already has access to the Korean criminal record of any foreigner in Korea via their computer system. A background check from a Korean police station would be utterly superfluous. It is NOT required by Immigration.
The Ministry of Education, however, has apparently been requiring Korean background checks from hagwon teachersKorean and foreign nationals alike. This is entirely unrelated to Immigration, however, who do not require applicants to obtain a Korean background check for the reasons already stated. |

I'm from Toronto...I had to go to the one down in bay & college...$26.25 for a criminal background and the guy, at the desk, gave me a list of where I can get my fingerprints checked....I called the closest one to me...it costs just over $30...and all they do is look through a national database.... |

Jiyull,
You don't require fingerprinting if you are from Canada going to work in Korea.
Certain countries, I was told Australia, have requirements for fingerprints which they feel are superior to the "CRC vulnerable" checks that Canadians do based on name.
Sorry,
For anyone reading this thread,
I meant to give good news to the Canadians that are IN CANADA. I'm not aware of how useful this was to Canadians in Korea at this time. |
