I'm pretty good now at downloading torrent files but still get some booboos now and then -

right now I'm downloading one that says it's 50 weeks old - is that a bad thing? does the file deteriorate after so many downloads and file swaps, etc.?

I do know a jpg file will deteriorate over 1000 downloads so my q is valid, even tho they aren't the same, I had trouble finding this film and will keep looking if someone knows this is probably gonna be a not-so-good film by time it gets to me.

**also** I only watch torrent files on my macbook - I've yet to transfer any to dvd and watch on a tv screen (mainly because I don't have one) but if I did that, how is the quality then? is it maintained pretty well ? will I have to start downloading the bigger +g size files or can I stick with the smaller ones less than a gig?

as long as a torrent has seeders, the age doesn't matter. all you're doing is sending zeros and ones across the internet.

with all torrents, there's a chance of errors or corruption from users' computers or transfer problems. but that happens regardless of the torrent's age.

don't worry about how old the torrent is ... just make sure there are still enough seeders.

jpgs shouldn't lose quality by copying them. however they will lose quality if you open and resave them. this is because jpg is a lossy compression format which throws away data to achieve smaller file sizes.

you don't get these problems with torrents, because it's only data transfer.

Dave is correct. A file can never lose quality by downloading, not even jpegs. Jpegs only lose quality when yoeu re-"encode" them. Like if you make a change and save it.

it could have crap added to it, viruses etc, but its not likely, nearly all searchers will tell you if it has. say a great movie like goodfellas, its prob been on there for more than a year but that doesnt mean its dodgy, it all depends on how many people have it so you can get it from them
