I just got my first Korean cell phone today. I bought it second-hand at Yongsan and got an SK Telecom prepaid card for it.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but is it always free to receive text messages?

Yes. Phone calls too.

I think N. America is the only place in the world where they charge you to receive phone calls on cell phones. It kind of reminds me of the days when one had to pay to receive letters (err before my time, but I read about it in books..)

If you make a fair amount of phone calls you'd be better off on a plan than with a prepay cellphone though.
