|
|
I came to Korea in 2006 and brought all the necessary documents I needed to get a job and an E-2 visa. I've been with my employer for 2 years and when my contract is finished, I'm moving elsewhere.
Last year, my visa was extended since I stayed with the same employer. If I change employers, do I need different documentation for a brand new E-2?
Do I need to get my documents re-certified and resent to Korea?
I currently have official copies of my degree and my transcripts with the consular's seal from 2006. Will I be able to use these since I came to Korea before the new E-2 rules?
I don't have a background check. Do I need one of these even though I came to Korea before the E-2 changes?
Also, will I be able to take care of my visa changes with a new employer in the country? Or will I have to leave the country and for a visa run?
Damn you Korea, keep my papers on file so this doesn't have to be a headache!
Cheers, BB |

You are definitely going to have to get a Criminal Record Check and to do the new Medical Check requirements. But it is possible to apply from in country if you are already working in the country. You will need to have the normal number of sealed transcripts and acceptable forms of diplomas.

Thanks for the answer. A CBC is no problem, neither is a medical.
My specific question is: Will my old official diplomas with the consular seal on them and transcript from 2006 be usable when I get another job in Korea? Keep in mind, this was before the "apostile" fiasco. I know transcripts couldn't be more than a few months old when applying for a job for the first time, but I'm already in the E-2 system and simply want to work for a different organization after my current contract. |

Are your transcripts still sealed in their envelopes with the stamp and signaure across the seal. If the envelopes have been opened they are no good to you for this process. If they aren't then you will need to get new ones which are - And remember that you need to have the number which are required for each stage of the process.
I think that the diplomas you used in the previousl process and then had returned to you - should be Ok in the new process.

well...I dont know how reliable this is..but I just spoke to a recruiter today.
I came last year and have copies of all my required docs. I asked about the CRC...and he said since I have been residing in Korea, I can just go to a local police station in Korea and get one (provided I still have my original one from back home..which I do. It's just not notarized or apostilled).
I haven't obtained a new visa yet so liek I said...not sure if it's reliable info. |

I'm bumping this again in the hopes someone does have an answer about the degree with the Korean consulate stamp. Are they still acceptable from people other than Canadians?
I'm in the US now, so it won't be that much of a pain to get an apostille for my degree, but I have a bunch of copies of my degree that I got stamped at the Korean consulate in Oct. 2006. It seems a waste to not be able to use them. |
