I've put up a wtb ad in the buy/sell/trade forum, but i noticed that wtb bike ads typically get ignored. my only assumption is that there aren't too may people looking to get rid of bikes. so, with that said, where's a good place to get a reasonably durable yet reasonably cheap mountain bike in daejeon? i don't need anything fancy, just something to get me around. but i'd prefer it to not break in the next year. thanks!

If you can get to a Costco, you'll probably find a nice Schwinn model.

My bike came off the side of the road. The chain came off and the back brake got stuck under the rim so it was abandoned (it was there for over two weeks before I took it). A friend of mine salvaged a good 5 or 6 bikes this way.

If you need a bike for utilitarian purposes, there's no need for a mountain bike. You can get a cruiser here, complete with racks and baskets to load stuff in (complete with rain fenders!) for @70,000. Go to a few neighborhood bikeshops and compare prices.

By the way, I'm not sure how much helmets are since I brought mine from home.

I actually plan to sell mine but haven't had time to deal with it for various reasons. I can email you pics if you pm me.

It's a nice bike, I live now in Haebonchon, too many hills, will buy a mountain bike later on. just busy now.

That's in Seoul, tho.

Do a search on Danawa.com. There are plenty of Chinese bikes that can be had for cheap, don't go for second hand.

Off topic, but, rocklee, that is the most annoying avatar I've seen in a while!

There are several foreign bikers in Daejeon who might be able to advise you about good local bike shops and places to ride.

If you are planning to be in Korea for a decent length of time, I would always recommend steering away from the cheapest bikes and going for something a bit pricier that will be lighter, stronger and nicer to ride.

A new bike for 70,000 won will only end up costing you more in the long term.

If you want to be super cheap, you can get a used bike from a local bike shop. I bought mine at one of the places around Olympic Park for 30 000. It's pretty much a piece of junk that I gave away when I left, but it got me to school, costco, and around the river for 5 solid months before the pedals and chain fell off. Fixing a bike in Seoul is cheap or free, but it's still a hassle if you're going to use it a lot or go on long journeys.

I've heard you can also get cheap new bikes online if you want something new, but I don't know any experience with online shopping in Korea. Last year the costco had a Jeep brand bike that was pretty snazzy too.
