Are you experienced??!!! If you pass my criteria for a korean ESL teacher, I may just consider you worthy of reading your posts:(only joking). But by my standards you have earned your stripes in korea if you have:-
1)Arrived at short notice on this strange planet with little money and knowing nobody, or what lay ahead.
2)Been the only foreigner in your hagwon
3)Worked without a syllabus or planning (the in at the deep end shock)
4)Dated a korean girl or guy.
5) served your time propping up the bars in itaewon.
6)Opened yourself to rejection by trying to befriend all the other waygooks in your town.
7)Threatened to leave your school in order to get things your way.
8)Had an angry out of control incident with a Korean
9)Become a master at pro wrestling moves on kids.
10)Actually left Seoul for a countryside trip.
11) spent the whole night in a hongdae nightclub. |

Hell, I could have arrived in Toronto and met the same requirements. Luckily I did come equiped with a full regiment of Korean friends to hold my hand, so I'll have to say "no" to this one.

Does Denz count? Then "no".

I do that even when they hand me a syllabus...

Just the first.

There is a boy in one of the other classes who keeps coming up to me and telling me "You're very ugly"
I usually dont let this shit slide, because if one kid gets away with it, they all think they can. But I took him before his foreign teacher, his Korean teacher and even the boss to be yelled at, but he continues to come up to me and tell me how ugly I am. I asked his teachers and they all told me that the boy is as dumb as mud, so he probably wont get it figured out too soon.
Yesterday, all of the younger classes were in the gym getting their faces painted because of the upcoming holiday, and while I was playing with some of the boys, he again comes up to me and says, "You're very ugly." My kids looked at me, wondering what I was going to do. I stepped on them pretty fast when they tried something like that.
So I choke-slammed him.
Like the Undertaker.
That's right. You dont *beep* around with Bill Teacha.
Okay, what I did was I gently put my hand on his neck, picked him up with my other arm, and yelled "CHOKESLAM" and gently dropped him of the 12 inch thick mat we were standing on.
The results: He looked shocked, and stopped bothering me. The rest of the boys all lined up because they like wrestling and wanted to be choke-slammed.
Now I'm "Wrestling Teacher". Time to snap into a Slim Jim... OH YEAH!

I assume you meant "Leaving Seoul to go sit in the traffic with the rest of the Seoulites with a day off." yep.

Been lucky so far, haven't needed to. But did threaten, with the other foreigners, not to show up because our pay was being withheld without cause, so I'm giving myself #7.

Not yet, but my current director seems to be under the impression that I only get a severence-bonus if I re-sign with him, which I don't want to do. Might be some fireworks... |

Say, "Sure, I'll sign." Then take your bonus and go home. |

1) Yes. Signed contract on Wednesday before Easter, left on Easter Monday, arrived in Seoul after transfer at JFK, 18 hour plane ride. My Boss picks me up at Kimpo and takes me directly to a bath house - woo hello Korean culture. Knew no one here.
2) No. Always had way-gooks around.
3) Yes. What's a syllabus? Sorry I worked at Wonderland.
4) Yes. I think, does my wife count?
5)Yes. I think, can't really remember!
6) Didn't need to, already had enough of them around, see 2)
7) OHH Yah, Walked out of the old, went 5 minutes down the street, got a new job with twice the pay, and spent a month on my freinds' couch dodging the INS.
Yes, so many Koreans, so little time, used a couple wrestling moves that I perfected in class. Young or old, Koreab men still scream for thei OM-MAH!!!!!!!!
9) Yes. Great believer in cross-face-chicken-wing and the clothes line - also pretty good with foreign objects.
10) Yes. Had to. Was about ready to buy a car and start mowing crowds down.
11) Yes. Then trucked it home on Subway line #2, fell asleep on some Soju adjussi, wound up at Techno-Mart, had to come back to Kagnam, stopped at Dunkin' Donuts, bought two coffees and double fisted it all the way home to Non-hyun dong across from the Ritz Carleton.
So, 9/11 I think. |

I'm only missing number nine. I avoid all physical contact with the kids as best I can.
Other than that, rank me 10/11. |

subways. Also whenn the bus driver ran over someone then they move him off the road as the accident is blocking the street.. I on the other hand thought that given that he probably had internal inguries it might not be such a good idea got a little worked up.

First time yesterday actually.
One of my 6 year olds threw a temper tantrum from hell and started using his taekwando moves on me. Fourtantley said kid is size of three year old thus pick him up under the armpits hold him at arms length while he takes mad swings at me...

Don't have 2, 6, or 7. But #6 isn't fair, I live in Seoul - I don't want to be friends with even a small fraction of the weigooks who live in my "town". |
