|
|
I just bought a Playstation 2, and have spent the last hour trying to hook it up by plugging random cords into random holes in my television and cable box. The PS2 is used, and came with no documentation, while the TV documentation and menus are all in Korean. I think a chimp could have managed it by now, probably with cleaner language.
Okay, I have a PS2 with five little plug thingies. The back of my TV (a Samsung CT-21Z43M) has two sets little plug holes, white and yellow. My cable box is currently plugged into one set. The cable box (a Humax OC-2500CJ) has little plug holes in colors that match the little plugs that came with the PS2, but I can't figure out how to set up the TV/cable to recognize that a signal is coming from the Playstation.
Thanks for any help. Obviously I am a professional engineer with many years of technical training, so if you could phrase it like you're talking to a particularly stupid cocker spaniel, that would be great. |

Your remote control will have a button that says "TV/외부입력". Try that one a time or two. |

I have been mashing on that button. It just takes me to broadcast television. Do you mean with the PS2 plugged into the TV directly?
Thanks! |

Yes. Also, it's possible that your TV should be on channel 3 or 4. |

Still no dice. Could the problem be that the back of my TV has only two little plug holes, and the cables I'm trying to plug in have five pins? |

Take some photos and put them up so we can be sure, but I think...
You're probably looking two RCA jacks on the back of your television (red and white?) and a different one on the playstation end. Now, I've never owned or even really looked at playstation up close, but it's possible that you have the wrong jacks (with photos I could be sure).
It's also possible that there's a separate remote control for your cable box and that one also has a button with "외부입력" or "출력변경" or some such thing written on it somewhere. Possibly even a physical button or switch. |

I'll borrow a friend's camera tomorrow, if it's not sorted yet.
The jacks on the back of my TV are yellow and white. The Playstation has two little clusters: One with one red and one white, and the other with one red, one blue, and one green.
You're right about the cable box remote -- it has a 외부입력 button. But it doesn't seem to do anything; the little "Hello" button that takes me to the menu just lights up.
Thanks for wasting your Saturday trying to help my illiterate self! |

I just got it working! Thanks so much for mentioning the 외부입력 button on the TV; it turned out I was trying to plug the cables in the wrong spot. I plugged them into the place marked 외부입력, and it worked! |
