My new HP with Vista really ruffles my feathers. When I am using Skype, sometimes the video will just stop, if say, I am put on hold. When I open my webcam through the Start menu, it will not activate the cam. I will hit "start my video" on Skype and it's a no go. Any ways on how to control this? |

Make sure you have associated the webcam with Skype in the Skype options/video settings. |

What brand is your laptop? Apparently with HPs (mine, for example) it's a pretty common problem that the built-in webcam just won't start up if you've used it earlier in another program... everything else thinks it's in use and therefore won't try. Can be solved by a reboot. |

You could try going into DEVICE MANAGER and seeing if there is a question mark over the webcam device.
Maybe the driver is corrupt, and needs to be uninstalled/installed. |

I have never used "SKYPE" but I use yahoo chat with voice. I use the web cam. but the quality is not that good. But it never shuts off.
If I look at the web cam on its own, it is so "true to life", but it seems on the voice chat it is a bit stiff.
My laptop has vista and it's an HP. I am sorta kinda getting used to the vista.
It is a fantastic laptop. |

Sounds like the problem is with Skype and not Vista.
Try using a different program like MSN or Yahoo. |
