Normally, I am a big promoter for DJish events. This one has me a little ticked, tho -
here is the start page: http://www.worlddjfest.com/
For those who can read the Korean, here is the followup link -
http://groovenation.host.whoisweb.net/bbs/zboard.php?id=swdf_news
and the 'English page' takes you here - http://www.worlddjfest.com/
Thank you, Wikipedia, for at least throwing us a bone - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seoul_World_DJ_Festival
This is not to say we won't go - if the weather is nice, we will combine it with some of the cool Buddha stuff going on downtown Sat. 1 day ticket costs 20k; not sure how that works with the day/night stuff.
But yet again, an F grade for what should be a minimal effort - a matching webpage for information in ENGRISH.
Regards, G.
(for those who don't know where it is still, you want Subway Line #6, World Cup Stadium Station, head out Exit #1 to Nan-ji Park) |

meh...how long have you been in Korea? You still can't read a Korean poster....with all the important info in English anyways....
Cornelius is playing at 10:30 and they have a 90 minute set. That's the only reason I'm going to this. |

From what I remember last year its a bit of a walk from the subway station to the actual festival. I remebmber walking 20 minutes and still not hearing any music and thinking I was in the wrong place. |

meh back atcha.
I have been here awhile - longer than most. I won't be presumptious and say 'longer than you' - although if you are a foreigner, it probably is the case.
And I can read the Korean, thanks. The POINT is about the fact that this is - read carefully, now - the 2nd Seoul World DJ Festival, and the English website is 'coming soon.' (thanks to jk80 for catching the point. PP - nice link for the schedule, but again - Cafe Daum is Korean-based, and kinda hard for a non-Korean to utilize their BBS, etc.)
You will rarely hear me complain about Korea - because i don't have many real complaints. This is just one of those things that needles me, that's all. The theme is '0% spectators, 100% participants' - can you not see the irony there, c_a???
Mini~rant done. We will be going because we have other friends of ours spinning, as well.

Very alcohol friendly. It's BYO, but it has to be in plastic. Just transfer yer gear to an empty water bottle. Last year the snack shop right outside the entrance was rammed. They were selling block after block of warm beer one of their guys just went to pick up, and were pouring all the bottles of soju into people's plastic bottles. It was great!
Attendance at the first one... I dunno exactly, but the Saturday night was huge. I would say over 10,000...? Friday night was less than half that. |

I read somewhere that over the whole event last year the door counted 80,000 people and they're expecting more this year. |

By the way, be prepared for the NIGHTMARE of getting in and out of that place. Cabbies don't like to go there, and last year there were thousands of people waiting for rides out towards the end of the night.
In further demonstration of their infinite wisdom, the planners seem to have done nothing about improving the transit in and out of the park. We'll see how it turns out...I'm crossing my fingers.
It's a good event that has the potential to be great...a global draw, even. I hope they learned from last year's mistakes. |

i second that. last year it took us an hour to get a taxi and then he wanted something ridiculous like 60,000 to get us back to itaewon.
this year i'm just gonna take my scooter out. |

My 'registration date' was in 2003 - when we all had to register, or we couldn't post. I've been here on Dave's since 1997 (back then, using the ancient chat module for teachers and students). I was 'on site' here before I even arrived at my first job in Changwon.
But that is really neither here nor there - let's hope for nice weather these couple of days, hmm? We were thinking of taking the car & putting it somewhere close, but the motorcycle is sounding like a better idea at this point. Just limits some of the stuff to bring.
Regards,
G.
oh - the water taxis should be helping a bit, too - possibly park south of the river, and then water taxi across - need to look into that one, methinx. |
