So one of my recruiters recommended Kids College. I had the interview and nothing seemed out of the ordinary (except for the longer hours). After I got off the phone, I came online and checked out the posts - apparently it's a terrible school to teach at! I don't think that I saw one positive post! I was wondering if there is anyone working there now who can give me the scoop on why it's so bad?

I know that recuiters are about getting their commission, but my recruiter was really backing the school and saying that I'll be happy there...guess I should drop him, huh? lol

This process is really starting to frustrate me...argh!.....

Kids College.

When I worked there, it was good as far as hogwons, until my supervisor barged into my class and reemed me out in front of my students because they wouldn't stay quiet, the contract said that there would be a korean teacher in there at all times but instead there was a woman who would come in and reward even the bad kids.

I almost hit a kid there because he slashed another kids face with scissors and when I kicked him out of class for that, I was reprimanded, told that I need to love my students, not punish them, whatever, *beep* that place.

The kids usually come from well off families with a lot of money, so they are spoiled, but that was alright when they came in around Christmas time with loads of gifts and what not. Apparently now, if you are given gifts, the staff intervenes and takes it for themselves. If the students parents bring you food in appreciation for all your hard work, staff takes it and eats it. You will be considered second class to them.

Contract was not honored. Overtime without pay. Breaks cut short from ten to five to no minutes at all. Lunch breaks taken away so we could work on plays with the kids. Deductions from our salary to go towards lunch there, but, we couldn't eat lunch there some times, even if we didn't want to eat, money was still deducted.

Starting salary was 2.0 for me. *beep* that.

Expect the staff to talk shit on you right in front of you, but they think you won't be able to understand them.

Housing was good. No problems there. School sucked. Don't work there.

I was one of the very first teachers at Kids College in 1996 and it sounds like not a thing has changed. We worked for weeks without a visa and nearly got deported. Then didn't work for 4-5 weeks and didn't get paid. The whole time I was there, it was nothing but BS and lies. I finally got sick of it, and went to Taiwan not long after that. There may be some good ones, but I doubt it.

From day one, it's been a really crappy place to work. There are many far better places, Kids College is a good place to avoid.

i worked at kids college-daejeon in 2005-2006. i was interviewed on the phone with the foreign principal, who was an american.who had just finished her 1 year contract as a teacher, then was given the principal position. interview went well and i wanted to work for that school

then a day after i had the interview with her, i got several emails from teachers who had worked for the school and a phone call from a teacher who finished her contrct and was still in korea. she gave me the low down on the situation (the boss fired 3 teachers within the span of two weeks b/c one had a phony degree and the other 2 were let go b/c they were saying bad stuff about the school).

needless to say, it didnt scare me away...it actually made me more curious and i took the job anyways.

u do work a shitload of hours and u do feel unappreicated for all that work. i actually was only the 3rd person to make it thru the 1 year contract since the school had opened in 2003 (well, the 3rd person who made it thru that didnt end up working there again after they finished 1 year). so i was told about 25 foregin teachers went thru there...and only 3 of us finished (i think its up to 5 now).

during my 1 year there, 2 teachers quit, 1 made it thru, 1 teacher who came in about 2 weeks before i finished did a runner about her 5 month in and my replacement was fired after 10 months.

the boss, who was a crazy woman and was always in hot water with the labor board and immigration, went into business with the foreign teacher and changed the name of the school and its no longer called kids college. the boss passed away in a traffic accident late in 2007.

the school is still running but after she passed, i dont know the situation of the school.

MAYBE if u go to a kids college school it MIGHT be different...but it depends on the management. like a lot of hagwon jobs in korea...it can be hit or miss.

Kids College won't honor any contracts. It's a rotten hagwon chain that will chew you up and spit you out. Any recruiter who "recommends" a Kids College is a scumbag and you should find a better recruiter. Rolling Eyes
