I've done some quick searches but have not found some answers I'm looking for.
Three months ago my wife and I were transfered here for her job in New Songdo City outside of Incheon. It was not my goal to teach English, as I am a Registered Dietitian and hoped to work in that field. After some investigation I realize my medical background probably won't get used here much. I brought all of the required paperwork I knew I would need in the event I chose to teach english.
What hoops will I have to jump through to upgrade my Visa from a spouse visa to a working visa? Will I need to find a sponsor or get a job offer? Is it an advantage that potential employers would not need to pay my airfare or lodging? Will all of this become more tricky if I do not wish to teach full time?
Kind Regards |

There are others on this board that can answer these questions much better than I can. What exactly do you mean by a spouse visa (F-2 visa maybe)? Hopefully by clarifying your current visa status, you can get steered in the proper direction as to where you can work and what you can do under that particular visa staus. |

IF you are qualified, as in: have a passport from one of the 7 accepted English speaking countries, have your bachelors degree from a university in said country, have an apostilled copy of your CRC and have sealed transcripts you CAN get a job here and change your status from F3 to E2.
Since you are here on an F3 (I assume as a dependent of someone with a work visa) you MAY be able to change your status without leaving the country or doing a consular interview in your home country.
You will have to find an employer, sign a contract, submit the documents and apply for change in status of sojourn AND addition of a place of employment to immigration and wait for approval.

I am from the U.S., have a B.S. from the U.S., have my notorized CRC, and have sealed x-scripts. Yes I am a dependent of someone with a work visa.
I suppose my next step is to find a reputable employer with work available in the Songdo/Incheon area once my dependent visa (F3) is received, which is expected in about 5 days.
Is it common for companies to take people who are looking for part time work when it requires such an effort on their part as well?
Thanks for your very informative responses.

find a 9-5, public school job, be home in the evenings with your wife and enjoy the breaks.
You are here and independent of them for your resident visa (you are just adding an employer and permission to work to your F3) so your hours and pay are negotiable.
You should have no problem finding a job within walking distance of your home. |
