|

I could not locate any information the FAQ section. Perhaps the General Discussion section may prove to be more helpful.
After many months of hibernating in our apartment, watching downloaded series, dvd movies, and reading numerous Kyobo/Bandi & Lundi books (other than exciting travel experiences during the winter months), we are excited to venture outdoors once again and try to take advantage of the next few months (before monsoon season).
This begs the question: What to do? (indoors or outdoors)
Examples to date: (in Seoul)
Historical sites in Seoul (Gyung-bok Palace, National History Museum, War Museum, Namdaemun Market, Insa-dong)
Cycling along Han River
Shakespeare play/Evita
Big screen movies (Coex, Myeong Dong, Yongsan)
Yeuido Park, Seoul Forest, Namsan Park
Shopping-Rodeo Drive, Myeong Dong, Dongdaemun
(outside Seoul)
Kyongpo-dae Beach
Daechun Beach-Mud Festival
Pusan-Haeundae Beach
Yong-in Cultural Center
Please add other possibilities for cultural and entertaining events, locations, or ideas for the next few months in Seoul. Perhaps some suggestions for weekend excursions to historical and interesting sites would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Anyone been to the infamous gated palace in Suwon (meant for the schizophrenic prince)? Is it worth the trip?
What about the day tour/4 day tour to theNorth Korea mountainous area? (can't remember the name) |

Can't watch baseball live, we'd fall asleep. I truly miss watching live hockey and football games (Canadian). Not even so much for the actual game itself, but for the experience and excitement of being there. -sigh- |

Everland is worth visiting at least once.
Seoul Racecourse Park and surrounding attractions in the Gwacheon area (subway line 4 south of Seoul) have some scenic sites.
Insadong street on the weekends always features traditional Korean cultural street performances (and nearby Tapkol - aka "Pagoda" - Park is worth a meditative walk through ...) |

Forgot to mention:
Everland
Carribean Bay
Lotte World
Come on peoples, there's got to be more out there! |

I'd recommend checking out Inwangsan. Is pretty small for a mountain but its the most chilled out place I've found in Seoul. Its like a small village with lots of small budhist temples. You get a great view of the city and its very quiet. Dongnimmun station, line 3, exit 2, first left and up the steps. |

Hairy Jim:
Thanks, we will try it out next weekend.
Has anyone been to Gyungju (old capital) or Seorak mountains? Any advice when visiting these places? |

I went to Seorak this winter--it was beautiful, I really liked it. Don't know what sort of advice you're looking for...
I also adore the Jeollas. The bamboo forest, green tea fields, and...Mai San? Someone help me out--what's the name of the horse ears mountain?
I really like Gangwha-do, too.
Nami Island is cheesy romantic and a beautiful spot to take photos and study the culture of Korean photography... |

Spring? What's Spring?
Where I come from we don't have Spring. Only Korea has Spring plus 3 other seasons.
I'm soo confused! |

Thanks for the input. I haven't been to Nami Island for a long time. Might be worth the visit again.
Whereabouts is the Jeollas? Sounds interesting. |

The bamboo forest is in Damyang, the tea fields are in Boseong. There isn't really anything to DO at either place, but they're nice, the are is clean, if it rains in the bamboo forest, the sound is beautiful.
Mai San, not so sure about, but I think it's near Jeonju... I think it's kind of hard to get to without a car, unfortunately. Mai San is a heck of a lot of stairs but very pretty with a few hermitages around the area. I've rarely met foreigners who've been there, though most Koreans know about it.
If you PM me, I'll send you links to photos of all of these places. |
