Sometimes I see people on here saying they have a dog they need someone to adopt.
I'm looking around for a dog atm.
I know there's a dog shelter in Daejeon, but it's quite far, and I don't have a car. I'm north of Seoul.
The thing is... I don't really want a dog from a shelter. If I'm going to go through the pain of house-breaking, and changing it's habbits, I'd rather start with a pup.
Most importantly though I need to know a bit about the dogs personality before I adopt it, because I have children around.
I can't have a dog that barks, chews, agressive to kids or animals, or has seperation anxiety. |

Have you checked or posted in the pet adoption sticky in the B/S/T forum?

My friend let the local vet know she wanted one. He is constantly finding dogs, and when he found one that he thought was good for her he called. From what I can see he doesn't find puppies, but he does make sure they are in good health and pad trained which is always a nice bonus. Anyways, maybe a vet in your area does the same thing. |

There are still many animals in shelters that are nice and loving. If you have a shelter near you, you could always volunteer and see for yourself. By doing so, you would always be getting to know certain animals you may consider.

There are actually some very young puppies at the Daejeon shelter right now. There is a right friendly group of people who meet at the KTX station at 8.30am every Saturday morning. The train costs W44,000 roundtrip, and there is transport from the Daejeon station to the shelter.
You could also visit this animal hospital
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=9515924733
in Seoul. They take in young rescues all the time.
I adopted the pup in my avatar from Daejeon last October, when she was 4 weeks old with no mama. She doesn't bark, is houstrained, has never bitten, loves kids and cuddles and cats. I agree you should get it young in order to train it to be comfortable in your family environment (we did just the same because of the cats), but I wouldn't rule out the Daejeon shelter just yet. There are also links to other, larger shelters on the ARK website at www.animalrescuekorea.org. There is no need to adopt a certain animal the first time you meet it, in fact everyone recommends a few visits / walks before you make up your mind. Or you might just know straight off.
Good luck. |

Adopting a dog that is in foster care (and looking for a permanent home) may be the best way to go about it.
The foster carer will have kept the dog in their own home, so they will know all about his/her habits, general health, house-training, likes/dislikes, behaviour with other dogs/kids/strangers/when left alone etc
There should be very few surprises with a foster dog compared with a young dog/pup you could adopt from a pet store.

I have a friend who just found a young husky pup mix. She already has a puppy that she got from the Daejon shelter, as do I, so she is looking for a home for it. She has already gotten some of its shots and it is in good health. However, just to warn you, if you haven't had a puppy before, they will chew, play aggressively and do all the things you said you don't want, until they are trained. This is unavoidable unless you get an older trained puppy, or dog. Anyways, if you are interested pm me and i'll give you my friends email address and she can send pics and give you more details.
Good Luck |
