|

I got a speeding ticket the other day. I unplugged my speed/radar detector to make room for my navigation system. Problem is a navigation system is only as good as its update. And therefore my navigation didnt pick it up.
But I don't think it would have made a difference. The police are getting smarter. The speed detector was set up on a small tripod, almost impossible to see with the naked eye. And usually the police officer is standing behind it, but this time it was on a remote because once i got close enough i could see him hiding in the bushes ( bastard!!). Anyway, by that time it was too late and I got hit doing 20 over the limit.
Does anyone know what the point system is for getting a speeding ticket? I've also been lucky to get a few more before I bought my speed detector. I am just wondering if you lose points off your license for tickets that are from the speed cameras. Anyone know who about this? And if so, how many points does it take b4 they yank your license. I have about 4 this year so far and my car is registered with the local city hall. But I havn't received anything about my license just the ticket in the mail.
And please.. keep the "oh you shouldnt have been speeding" comments to yourself. I am not looking for a slap on the wrist. Just helpful info |

There is a 30 point system attached to your driving license.
As a general rule, you will not receive points off of your license except in cases of really excessive over the limit speeding, i.e. 30+ kph over the limit, running a red light in an intersection that has a detector or in a school zone, or if you are at fault in an accident. Korea is considering implementing a new "timed system" that keeps track of the average speed from camera to camera and if your overall travel speed is above the posted limit you will receive a ticket.
I use my GPS navigation system regularly when traveling and update the software for it online. It is important to me as a resident foreigner because I don't want to lose my license. If you receive too many tickets in a 12 month period you can lose your license for 30, 60, 90 or 6 months, and be required to take safety training to get it back. It's kind of funny, my wife cautions me all the time about my driving and in the last two years she is the one who received tickets for speeding rather than me. |

Well according to that site i've lost my license long ago... Not to mention the illegal left turn i made at a green light in yongsan. That was a biggy.
Strangely enough why didn't I get a letter in the mail about my license put on suspension. Hmmm.. Do I contact the local police station or just go on my merry way. I better check this out ASAP!
I don't want to be driving a suspended license and get into an accident only to find out my insurance company will not cover me.
Thanks for the link.. big help |

The police are starting to penalise drivers who speed, drink drive or park illegally. There is a police revolt. |

Possibly as a backlash from everyone calling them useless stupid gits... I'd kind of want to revolt too, but after years of doing nothing I don't think I could bring myself to do it |

If it makes you feel any better, I find you revolting. |
