So the "sit and drink" formula is getting old. Does anyone have any fun ideas for a date in SW Seoul? It can be anything, exciting or laid-back; I'm just bored with the whole bar scene, unless you know a bar that distinguishes itself in some way.
(Korean girl and western guy, btw) |

Man, you live in Seoul. There is plenty to do. Do you really need advice? Use your imagination!
Good day time first dates are museums and art halls/exhibitions. Cool stuff to look at, plenty to talk about, displays in Korean for her and in English for you, lots of walking around, etc. |

I live in Suwon (=even the cows are bored). She lives near Guro, but really anywhere in that general part of town is fine (or further north on lines 1 and 2, like Youngdungpo or Sinchon). Art exhibits are a good idea, though. Before I google it, do you have any suggestions?

My place is literally not physically large enough to contain two people, regardless of size, position, or level of determination.

Wow.
Just wow.
Insa-Dong bird/tea places, hiking in the mountains to the east of town, noraebang, picnic along the Han River . . .
There's tons to do here, d00d.
This is before you even go down toward hongdae where there are things to do every 10 feet or so.

My problem isn't that I can't think of anything; I did plenty of fun things back home. The problem is that I don't live in Seoul so I don't know where anything is. So, if I decide to go to a cafe or a small indie music venue, I have no idea where to go or which ones are good. That's where I need your help.
For example, in Atlanta I would often go to a kind of bar/restaurant/music venue that showcased a lot of local rock and indie bands on Saturday nights. It was great, and the selection of beer was staggering. It was a great place for a first or second date. I have no idea if anything like that exists in Seoul, or where, or whether it's any good. Can anybody recommend such a place, maybe in Itaewon? |

The Yangwhayo Bridge, which connects Mapo with Yeungdeungpo bridges over an island. The island is some kind of botanical garden or something with a museum of some sort as well. You can also take a ferry there as well, but I don't know how to do that. I think the 4715 I think bus from Hongdae goes there. |

I live at Sindorim station and when I go out it's usually to Hongdae/Itaewon. Taxi home is only about 15k. Alternatively the Technomart at exit two Sindorim has a CGV on the 11th floor (Iron Man has just come out...) and a good range of restaurants on the 9th floor. The new Chinese place next to the pasta place is Excellent. |

Guro, huh?
How about a romantic walk around the CJ flour refinery? Or perhaps a stroll through the industrial machinery market and buy her some rebar or a bandsaw? And don't forget to go hooker lookin' in Youngdeung-po!
Ha, I live near Guro, and although some of its res. areas are nice, there isn't shit to do here (other than the drinking/restaurant things you mentioned).
OH WAIT, I THOUGHT OF SOMETHING. One stop down from Guro Station is Gu-il Station, which has Anyang Stream right below it. It's a bit tepid, but not terrible, and is lined with really good bike/in-line paths and b-ball courts and cetera. Wife and I bike down there all the time, and it's ok.
ALSO, if you like toys you can always to the Toys R Us in the B1 of Lotte Mart (at Gu-il Station). There's a good-sized Techno Mart at Shindorim Station, too. |
