For those of you on E-7s, I heard from management today that immigration is enacting changes (or has been, starting from the first of the year) to tighten the restrictions on who can receive E-7s.

A part of the new rules, or so I've heard, is that you're expected to have a Bachelor's + 5 years of direct work experience in the field of your prospective job (or a Master's + 3 years). Considering the employment pool in Korea, that's gonna leave alot of places requiring E-7 holding foreigners SOL.

Has anyone heard similar news? Any links?

With the new changes in the E-2 visa requirements, all foreigners entering Korea should have to go through the same thing, especially kyopos.

Wasn't Christopher Neil on an E-7?

So it's just hearsay. Anyone got a link to confirm this...

As I made another post about, a friend of mine was telling me about this last night. His visa was rejected. Same thing, 5 year issue.

I agree, but this was completely unannounced...it won't affect the professional financial advisors and lawyers and such I reckon, but the only people I know on E-7 visas have things like editing jobs.

If it affects renewing an E-7 at the same company, that equals mad screwage for me.

Is the E-7 a direct work visa? Or is it entry for a certain period until you find work?

Yes, the rumors are definitely true. I was at the immigration office today and they told me that as on January 1st those wishing to do editing work need a relevant BA (journalism, communications etc) + 5 years experience or an MA and 3 years.

Yes.

In fact, all visas that may allow you near kids should go through the same process.

It is all about saving the kids, isn't it? Pedophiles can be married just like anyone else.

All teachers at International schools are on E7 visas. CPN was on an E7 visa at Kwangju Foreign School. Most foreign schools hire a lot of new graduates, so they are going to be screwed big time.

I can't believe the repercussions from that guy having taught here in Korea. It's ridiculous and another exagerated knee jerk reaction by cracked in the head administrators trying to toot their own horns

okay, so now that we've (sorta) established that the new regs are legit, any word on whether or not those currently on E-7s will get grandfathered in when it comes time to renew?

what's up btw, quadra? hope the warmer climes are treating you well...

Yes those wanting to renew their E7 visa will have to provide proof of relevant experience. I asked the immigration officer about this and he showed me his shiny new E7 rule book with this written in it. It was the first time I've ever actually been shown one of these mysterious "rule books" so we can take it that these revised rules applies to both new applicants and those renewing their visas.

Hi;
Read all threads and got to know that E-7 needs experience to be issued or renewed. What about years of experience requirement for bachelors, masters and Ph.D. degree holders ? and what is the maximum permissible visa extension stated ? Information or related link would be appreciated.

Hi;
I wish there was more discussion on this issue.
Read all threads and got to know that certain amount of experience needed to be issued or renewed E-7 visa. What years of experience would be required for bachelors, masters and Ph.D. degree holders ? and what is the maximum permissible visa extension stated for this category ? Information or related link would be appreciated.
