|

So one of my lovely students is getting married. She's been dating her bf for a year. During that time she had braces put on her teeth. The transparent ones. BTW, she still looks very attractive.
Well, the Korean wedding clock rang and the couple decided to marry a couple of months ago.
However, now with the wedding only a couple of weeks away, the bf wants her to remove the braces before the wedding so the wedding photos look better.
He actually told her that she'd look prettier in the photos and his parents wanted them removed as well.
Whats up with this???? Unfortunately, she didnt give this mommas boy a kick in the "hip", and agreed to have her braces removed then put on again after the honeymoon. Unbelievable??
Only in Korea?? |

I have a few Western friends who got contacts because apparently a bride can't get married in glasses.
That's just as stupid. |

Braces are a hell of a lot more complicated than contact lenses. More expensive too. I can see lunatics doing it in any culture though. |

Yes, but you have to understand, in Korean culture, they go all out for the weddings. This includes the renting the finest converted office building for at least 45 minutes, dazzling your guests with a top-notch fog machine, laser show, and electric candles, then whisking everybody off for the reception at the soju tent. |

The thing about the glasses that pissed me off is that braces are usually short term (relatively speaking) wear and glasses are not. And my friends all met their husbands WHILE WEARING GLASSES and they wore them throughout their courtship.
But oh my! A BRIDE can't wear glasses! |

Getting the braces removed etc just for a single day or two is retarded. If it's just for the photos, do what every photographer does when someone isn't as "beautiful" as they want to be... PHOTOSHOP.
Glasses are cute, no reason most girls shouldn't wear them to look nice.
but then again |

If it's not a big procedure to do so, just get them taken off. If it is a big ordeal, then don't do it.
I think most western brides shouldn't worry about the glasses, but instead should stop eating big macs and cinnabons for a couple weeks before the wedding. |

Uh, so remind me again why they need contacts? Couldn't they just go without glasses for the wedding (or at least the staged pictures)? I have pretty bad vision (-5.50) but I could manage if need be. |

I don't think the braces would be a huge problem to get off. When wires are changed monthly the only thing left on each tooth is the brace itself. These just have to be removed, and then new ones can be bonded back on after. The actual hardware in the mouth is quite cheap. The dental labor and expertise is the expensive part. I'm sure the dentist would even be willing to do the change for free seeing as it's a wedding. If not, the MIL will pay. |

My eyes focus ten cm in front of my face. I sure as hell wouldn't remove my glasses.
But you're missing the point. Why take off the glasses at all? |

I think you might be under the impression that someone cares what she wants. |
