For anyone interested, an Arabic class in Itaewon will start as soon as there are enough people signed up. They need about 8 or 10 all together and there are 4 people who have already expressed interest. I've seen older posts here from some who were looking to learn Arabic. So if you or anyone you know is interested, go to the Islamic Book Center in Itaewon (it's on the street going to the Mosque) and sign up.
By the way, the Mosque also has a class but it is mostly in Korean and Arabic, not English. Personally, I need some English spoken to explain some of the grammar rules, etc.
Spread the word so we can get a class together please! |

if I were in Itaewon or very close I'd definitely sign up, but I'm far far away.
btw, you may want to check what kind of Arabic will be taught.
There's a difference between modern standard spoken Arabic and the Quranic style that perhaps you may be taught.
I'd only be interested in the former myself. |

Would you mind posting the details - times of classes, pay, etc?
I can't visit the bookstore this week to see for myself. Thanks. |

I'm not 100% sure of the times, but I think it will be an hour on Sat. and an hour on Sunday. I know that is not the most convenient times, but I guess that is what works best for the majority of people. No idea of the exact times though. Morning? Afternoon?
And I believe the guy said it would cost 50,000 won per month.
Appreciate the post about the type of Arabic we'd be getting. Good point. Though I'm fairly certain it is modern spoken Arabic with some writing. I'll be sure to double check that before I commit. |

There are two main types of written Arabic:
1. Classical Arabic - the language of the Qur'an and classical literature. It differs from Modern Standard Arabic mainly in style and vocabulary, some of which is archaic. All Muslims are expected to recite the Qur'an in the original language, however many rely on translations in order to understand the text.
2. Modern Standard Arabic - the universal language of the Arabic-speaking world which is understood by all Arabic speakers. It is the language of the vast majority of written material and of formal TV shows, lectures, etc. |
