Well as the topic says I'm getting married this December in Canada and I was wondering what documents I need/need to prepare. I am a Canadian citizen and she is a Korean citizen. If anyone has any information on what I need to prepare that would be great.
I tried searching the site, however most of the information was related to people getting married in Korea and I was unable to find any information about getting married in Canada. |

I was married in America.
My husband was an American ( Swedish ) and I am a Korean.
The minister was Episcopal minister who was a family friend of my husband. I remember the minister signed on marriage license and that's all I know.... My husband did what he had to do and I didn't give much attention
I wish I can give you better information even through it was in America, but somehow I didn't give much attention on paper working which legalized our marriage. |

I don't know specifically about this. I had a friend who married a Korean woman in Vancouver.
As far as I know they had no problems other than for her to stay permanently in Canada he had to sponsor a spousal visa (or something like that).
Marriage and citizenship are two very different things. The Canadian government doesn't really care who you marry or where you get married, but they do care about who is allowed to remain in the country and who is granted citizenship.
Check the Immigration Canada website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp
You can find some of the information you are looking for there.

If you got married in the US by an Episcopalion priest, you first had to get a marriage license from the state in which he is licensed to officiate at marriages. The US system is: see the government office (city hall or county seat, depends on the jurisdiction) then find someone who's licensed to marry you and sign the certificate and finally either the officiant or the happy couple (who does it depends on the jurisdiction) return the certificate to the aforementioned government office.
I found this link with a quick web search. It has information on how to get married in Canada.
Getting married in the US on a tourist visa may cause you problems later in life if you wish to have your spouse immigrate. There's a presumption by the US government that spouses of US citizens intend to immigrate. It doesn't always cause a problem but it may. It did for one of my friends back in 1990. The decision was just to fine them because his wife's earlier trip to the US on a tourist visa was to get married to him, not to be a tourist. |
