What's the best art museum in Seoul? I know what the guidebooks and internet say, but it has been my experience that the people on the ground can offer the best advice. |

BL, there's no such thing as best gallery, just great exhibits.
That said, two of the better exhibits I've been to are the Baudrillard photo exhibit at Dongwon Gallery and the Helmut Newton exhibit at the Chosun Gallery.
Pay less attention to the gallery and more to the exhibit. |

I'd have to disagree - some of the exhibits seem like they'd rock but are handled badly - the Monet exhibit comes to mind, and a couple of others now only in memory.
mostly all the cameras and camera phones going off can be really disturbing; videos set up as part of the exhibits are often turned way down low because they are in English (!!) - even set up in the main exhibition hall as opposed to in a separate space.
smaller galleries are often better - but overall I've taken to avoiding most of the exhibits these days, which is too bad, considering I'm an artist
the downstairs gallery at gwanhamun station is pretty awesome tho, it's always been my favorite here |

Korea isn't the place to come for art -- it just isn't. The museums aren't globally respected. Neither is the Opera, Symphony, etc.
If you love art -- excellent art -- this is the wrong place... |
